The Rings of Power season 2 finale might finally show who the Stranger is
The Rings of Power deals with many characters. As a result, not every episode is able to focus on all the characters. Thus, the Stranger and Tom Bombadil have been absent from recent episodes, as they primarily depict Sauron’s schemes and Adar’s strategic moves.
However, the initial episodes of season 2 make it clear that the Stranger is gradually turning out to be an important character in Middle Earth. Tom Bombadil, the wisest character in this universe, prophesies that the Stranger has a crucial role to play in the upcoming battle between good and evil.
Those familiar with the source material penned by J. R. R. Tolkien already know that the Stranger is none other than Gandalf. Season 2’s finale might finally reveal his identity as Sauron’s grasp over Middle Earth is expanding.
Sauron will prevail, for now
This is one spoiler most fans of the Tolkien-universe would be expecting from the finale anyway. Episode 7 shows Celebrimbor finishing his task of making the nine rings for men. Further, towards the end of the episode, he also sees through Sauron’s disguise.
The Rings of Power season 2 finale might show the death of Celebrimbor. In the book, Sauron tortures the ring-maker, humiliates him and kills him in a sadistic fashion. The same might happen in the Amazon Prime adaptation as well.
Further, Sauron will most probably get hold of the nine rings (they are with Galadriel when episode 7 ends) and distribute them among the most corrupt leaders of men, ushering in a reign of terror in Middle Earth. Overall, the finale might set the stage for a Sauron-Galdalf battle that could be depicted in the subsequent seasons.
The fate of the dwarves and elves might be revealed
As things currently stand in The Rings of Power season 2, not all is well among the dwarves.
Enchanted by the ring, King Durin has been making one rash decision after the other. That has not only displeased his subjects but also created tensions between him and Prince Durin. Sauron’s success could only mean more woe for the dwarves, as they are already on the verge of a civil war.
The elves, meanwhile, are directly confronting Adar and Sauron. In episode 7, they try their best to defend Eregion from the orcs’ rampage. Further, they are also guarding the three rings with their lives. They are the only factor separating Middle Earth and a despotic regime. The season 2 finale might show how long the elves can resist Sauron.
What about the men?
For much of The Rings of Power season 2, Saoron, taking on the form of Annatar, has manipulated Celebrimbor. The latter, under the spell of the former, has finished making the nine rings for men. Though they are safe with Galadriel at present, Celebrimbor himself has been captured by Sauron.
In Númenor, things have taken a dramatic turn. After his initial spell of popular approval, Pharazôn is now a disgraced ruler, thanks to his growing autocratic tendencies.
In fact, the men have chosen Mirien back as their ruler. If Sauron gets his hands on the rings, Pharazôn might get a boost. Sauron would try to empower particularly those leaders of men who are susceptible to his influence.
The Rings of Power season 2 finale will be released on Amazon Prime Video on October 3, 2024.
