The Simpsons season 36 is set to premiere on Sunday, September 29, 2024, after its 35th season released back in October 2023. The trailer for the new season was released by the makers on the official X handle of the show, on September 26, 2024, with the caption hinting at the long-awaited episode for fans.

“I’m getting so excited for this big Sunday!!” wrote a fan on the X post by the show.
“I love The Simpsons, I missed them, I can't wait for September 29,” wrote another fan.
“We're just a few years away from 40 sesaons oh my god,” wrote another fan.

While some fans are visibly excited for the new season, others have been criticizing the show, based on the past few years of The Simpsons.

“The Simpsons haven’t been funny for the last 25 years,” wrote an X user.
“Just end the show. Put it out of its misery,” wrote another X user.
“The writing hasn’t been good since season 10……I dunno what happened but it has never been the same. The 13 and 18 year olds only watch from season 3 to 11 and they can’t even stand the new stuff…..it’s not funny,” wrote a fan expressing their disappointment.

The trailer post of The Simpsons season 36 also received some suggestions related to the storyline and questions regarding the streaming platform, as fans looked for answers.

“I'd love to make an animated series but I'd make all the characters age accurately, and I'd try to put out an episode on the day of the character's birthday so the show would feel different and real to people. You'd feel more connected,” suggested a fan on X.
“Why not on disney+ bro it’s the streaming home of the Simpsons,” asked another fan.

The Simpsons Season 36: Will Bart’s birthday finally change Springfield forever?

The Simpsons Season 36 premiere teases a major twist, with Bart’s birthday possibly leading to a discovery that could change Springfield forever. The episode’s description says Bart will have his “most shocking birthday party,” and the events might bring long-term changes to the characters.

The most important change could be that the Simpson family, who haven’t aged since the show started in 1989, might finally begin to age. This would open up new storylines, like Bart and Lisa going to high school, Maggie starting preschool, and even Homer nearing retirement.

While this idea might seem like like an exciting new direction, it's unlikely that The Simpsons Season 36 will fully change. For many years, the show has used a flexible timeline, where the characters' pasts and ages keep changing.

For instance, in older episodes, Marge and Homer were shown as teenagers in the early 1970s, but in newer flashbacks, they were in high school in the late 1990s. This flexibility in the show's story has been key to its longevity.

As the characters grow older, new storylines could be created, but the show's charm comes from the characters staying the same, allowing for timeless humor and relatable dynamics. It is yet to be discovered how such changes can lead to a different perspective of the long-running show which has been part of the childhood of billions of people.

Fans of the show can watch The Simpsons Season 36 on FOX, premiering on September 29, followed by its OTT release on Hulu the next day.
