The Summer I Turned Pretty became a huge hit when it first premiered in 2022 and delivered something similar in the second season, but the fans of the show will have to deal with a big heartbreak when it comes to the third season. According to the reports, the show will not return this year, instead opting for a 2025 release.
This was revealed during Amazon's Upfront presentation in New York earlier this week, where the streamer also announced many encouraging pieces of news, including a fifth season of the beloved The Boys and a second season of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Sadly, for The Summer I Turned Pretty fans, things are not that bright.
The series was greenlit for a third season in August 2023, but with the double strike going on in Hollywood, it took some time for the series to get to the floors.
The third season is reportedly under production right now.
The Summer I Turned Pretty will return late but with a supersized season
The Summer I Turned Pretty will return sometime in 2025. The precise date or time frame of the release is not known yet. But one big positive update is that the third season will be nearly twice as long as the first one.
The first season of the Jenny Han novel trilogy contained seven episodes while the second one had a total of eight episodes. But as Amazon revealed during the presentation, the third season of the show will be 13 episodes long, which should come as some compensation for the fans who will have to wait a year longer for the show to return.
Series stars Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Gavin Casalegno, all spoke out about the series during the presentation. Referring to the current filming process, Casalegno said—
"I’m really excited to see what comes next for all of us in the show itself, especially for Jeremiah and Belly’s final moments in Season 2."
Briney added to this—
"We’ve all been so close. It’s our third year, which is kind of crazy. I miss them a lot. We were away for a while…So it’s good to be back, reunited, where it all started."
More details about the upcoming third season of the show are expected to arrive as the production continues.
