The Umbrella Academy season 4 resolved many mysteries driving the series, such as what truly happened to Ben Hargreeves and the original crisis that resulted in the multiversal calamities throughout the series.

One of the major reveals was that Reginald's wife, Abigail, was the creator of the Marigold and Durango, which can be considered analogous to the God particles and anti-God particles.

While the Marigold is responsible for the superpowers developed by the Hargreeves and the Sparrows, the Durango carries the potential for a cataclysm known as the Cleansing should it come in contact with a Marigold.

However, the show leaves the question of how the Durango found its way to Earth unanswered, given that Abigail had died in the original timeline. Fans picked up on this and brought up the question on Reddit.

In response to this question, another fan also wondered why Marigold would find its way to the Earth.

While the show's final season clearly spelled out what happened during the "Jennifer incident" that kicked off the entire plotline, why Marigold and Durango came to the Earth is left unanswered.

This has led to some degree of fan backlash due to people being dissatisfied with the ending, with one fan saying:

"The twist. So basically the problem is always the siblings. The timelines fracture because of them. Idk I just feel like all these world ending things can be so easily solved."

Another fan also expressed considerable confusion over the final season's revelations and the implications they had on the plot:

"xplain this further please...She creates (or discovers marigold) which is always attracted to durango and ends her planet with a nuclear missile armageddon so reggie time travels to earth (and brings his dead alien wife but stores her on the moon?), opens a portal to ???? oblivion hotel?"

The ending of The Umbrella Academy season 4 is shaping up to divide fans of the series, with some believing it raises more questions than it answers.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 controversially erases the Hargreeves siblings

One of the more contentious aspects of The Umbrella Academy season 4 is how the show resolves the multiversal crises plotlines.

After learning the truth about the Jennifer incident and discovering that Jennifer is alive and under Abigail's custody in the new timeline, Ben and the Hargreeves siblings eventually conclude that the only way to save the world is to restore the original timeline but remove themselves from existence. To do this, they voluntarily initiate a Cleansing by having Ben and Jennifer unite and allow themselves to be consumed by it.

With them and their Marigold powers erased from existence and everyone's memories, a new timeline is formed where nobody remembers the Umbrella Academy siblings anymore. After that, the supporting cast, such as the Handler, Hazel, and Agnes, live normal lives in a world without superpowers.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 had already surpassed the original graphic novels in its storyline since season 3. In an interview with Netflix's Tudum, Steve Blackman indicated that the show's resolution to the Jennifer incident mystery is different from what the graphic novel will do when it gets around to it.

Whether it's being criticized or defended, the ending of The Umbrella Academy season 4 has definitely sparked a lot of discussion.
