The Way Home is one of Hallmark channel's most popular shows at the moment, and the release date of the new season is just around the corner. It is a time-travel and family drama containing three generations of women from the same family. The show is created by Alexandra Clarke, Heather Conkie, and Marly Reed. The first two seasons are currently streaming on Hallmark+, the new OTT platform recently launched by Hallmark.
Season 3 of The Way Home will premiere on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 9 pm ET on the Hallmark Channel. It will be available for streaming on Hallmark+ from the next day onwards. The rest of the episodes in the season will also follow a similar pattern of release.
This news brings solace to fans of the show, who were initially outraged when it was announced that the new season would be released exclusively on Hallmark+ and would be shown on the Hallmark Channel only in the fall of 2025.
Fans took to social media to express their anger at being forced to subscribe to another streaming platform. Hallmark reversed its original decision based on the overwhelming response from fans.
The change in release date and platform was revealed by two of the show’s lead actors, Andie MacDowell, and Chyler Leigh, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the Hallmark Christmas Experience in Kansas City.

Plot overview of The Way Home
The Way Home is a time-traveling drama revolving around the lives of the three generations of Landry women as they navigate their past and present to understand each other better and mend their relationships.
The cast includes Andie MacDowell as Del Landry, Chyler Leigh as her daughter Kat Landry, and Sadie Laflamme-Snow as Alice, Del's granddaughter. Evan Williams portrays the role of Elliot, an old friend and love interest of Kat's, who is also Alice's science teacher.
Spencer Macpherson and Jefferson Brown are also a part of the cast and play the roles of Kat's long-lost brother Jacob and Kat's father Colton Landry, respectively.
In the first season of The Way Home, we are introduced to the Landrys as Kat and her daughter return to her hometown in Port Haven to live with her estranged mother after Kat's life falls apart. What follows is a fortuitous discovery by Alice, as she falls into a lake on the property, which just happens to be a portal to the past.
Over the first two seasons, we see Kat and Alice time-travel through the lake to different places in Del and Kat's past, which leads to a better understanding of each other. By the end of season 2, Kat also discovers that her brother Jacob, who was thought to have been dead, had actually fallen into the lake as a child and been transported to the year 1814.
The second season ends in a cliffhanger, where an adult Jacob travels back to the present with Kat, ready to walk into the family home to meet Del, who still believes he is dead. Moreover, the second season also sees Elliot traveling back in time to visit Colton, who was like a father figure to him, and who, as it turns out, also possesses the ability to time-travel.
What can be expected from season 3 of The Way Home?
From updates on Hallmark Channel's official website, the new season will begin exactly where the last one left off. A new chapter will also be introduced as Kat and Alice will travel to 1974 to see how her parents first met.
Julia Tomasone and Jordan Doww will be joining the cast in season 3 to portray the roles of teenage Del and Colton, respectively. Devin Cecchetto will also be joining the show as teenage Evelyn, who befriends Alice, which may jeopardize Alice's relationship with Del.
Kat stands to make some astonishing discoveries, which make her want to close the door in the 1800s. She also tries to navigate her relationship with Elliot, who himself is confronted by his own complex past.
