Tulsa King season 2 needed some new villains since the titular gangster Dwight Manfredi (Sylvester Stallone) killed Caolan Waltrip and forced Chickie to retreat in season 1. The first episode of the new season has met the demand by introducing two new enemies of Dwight.

Tulsa King season 2 premiered on September 15, 2024, on Paramount+. Titled Back in the Saddle, the synopsis of episode 1 of season 2 reads:

“As Dwight and his crew prepare for the opening of their casino and new weed shop, the law comes knocking.”

The episode introduces Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher, who are allies, intent on checking Dwight’s progress in Tulsa since they consider the place their turf. The season premiere makes it clear that “the General” will now have to deal with these two, even as Chickie Invernizzi carries on with his own plans to drag him down.

Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher are the antagonists in Tulsa King season 2

After being betrayed by Stacy Beale (Andrea Savage) in the last episode of season 1, Dwight had to go to prison. However, Tulsa King season 2 episode 1 wastes no time in bringing him back for bail worth $3 million, managed by his daughter Tina.

Out of prison, Dwight is invited by Margaret Devereaux (Dana Delany) to a fundraising party hosted by Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough). Dwight wants to befriend Thresher since he has business plans with him. However, Thresher rudely makes it clear that he would not let Dwight do business on his turf.

Cal Thresher is a business tycoon who has shifted his focus to the production of medical marijuana. Dwight has an idea to boost weed production, but Thresher only sees the possibility of rivalry between the two, not partnership.

In fact, in the episode, Thresher is seen calling Bill Bevilaqua (Frank Grillo), a crime boss based out of Kansas City, to warn him about Dwight and his expanding influence in Tulsa. Thus, Dwight will go up against the combined force of Bill Bevilaqua and Cal Thresher in Tulsa King season 2.

What is Dwight’s business plan?

While in jail, Dwight heard his fellow inmate Harlan going on about obtaining the federal government's subsidies for clean energy and wind turbines. Harlan claimed that he had accumulated millions of dollars by cheating the government this way.

This idea sticks with Dwight even after he gets out of prison. In fact, he tries to convert this idea into his next business plan. The plan is to get subsidies and free energy from the government, and then use them to boost weed production. That way, everyone's profits could be maximized.

This is the plan Dwight was looking forward to developing with Thresher. However, Tulsa King season 2 will take a different direction, as episode 1 shows.

What is Chickie Invernizzi up to?

Chickie Invernizzi has never been a fan of Dwight. In fact, he killed his father because the latter had a soft spot for Dwight, became the boss of the mob, and sent his men to Tulsa to kill Dwight.

However, Chickie is not well-liked by the others. Dwight, on the other hand, is widely respected. As a result, Goodie, one of Chickie’s men, joins Dwight’s hand instead, giving up the initial plan of killing him.

Further, there are doubts within the organization about Chickie’s leadership qualities. Some even suspect that he killed his father and passed it off as an accident. Thus, at the beginning of Tulsa King season 2, Chickie finds himself in a tough spot, and he chooses to send a message to his enemies and the skeptics.

This he does by calling Goodie over the phone and then shooting a terrified Jerry in the head as Goodie listens to the crying and begging of the nervous Jerry. This is Chickie’s way of letting everyone know that no moves against him would be treated lightly.
