Based on Michael Crichton Anne-Marie Martin’s Twister 1996, Twisters is a sequel to the former, and is set to be released 28 years after the original movie. The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and a fascinating cast lineup.
After the announcement, Twisters became a huge debate in the classic Hollywood landscape for its connection with the previous film. It has been revealed that the sequel is not a remake, but a standalone movie that will follow a new generation of storm chasers, catering to both new and longtime enthusiasts.
The earlier attempts for the sequel happened around June 2020, when Joseph Kosinski was in negotiation with Universal Pictures as both writer and director for the second film. Even Helen Hunt, who played the female lead character, Jo Harding, in the first film, proposed to write and direct the sequel, but the studio rejected her plans.
In the end, Lee Isaac Chung was finalized to helm the film, with Marl L. Smith on the screenplay, and Kosinski on the storyline. Follow along with the article to learn more.
Twisters will be released on July 19, 2024
Twisters will be released by Universal Pictures on July 19, 2024. The film initially premiered on July 8, 2024, in London, and was announced to also be screened at the Taormina Film Festival.
The filming for Twisters began in May 2023, at the Praire Surf Studios in Oklahoma City, and other significant locations in the county. Other major locations include Chickasha, Spencer, Cashion, Okarche, El Reno, and more.
Due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes, the production schedule was paused, but the filming wrapped up around December, before the year ended.
