Under the Bridge episode 1, titled Looking Glass, started by introducing the characters to the audience against the backdrop of carefully selected music. Reena Virk appears first with a CD playing The Notorious B.I.G.'s Going Back to Cali in the car, setting the tone for her storyline. Meanwhile, Josephine and Kelly are introduced when the background music plays Representin by Dirty Science Crew.

As Rebecca arrives in Victoria, the background song of the Cocteau Twins' Alice creates a sense of foreboding and mystery in Under the Bridge. The song is played as non-diegetic music, enhancing the atmosphere in the scene.

The characters Connor and Cam, portrayed by Jared Ager-Foster and Lily Gladstone, respectively, share Blonde Redhead's It Was All So Sudden as their song. The police action picking up the teens for questioning has Rockets by Cat Power playing in the background, preparing for the end of the episode.

Under the Bridge is a true story set in Victoria in 1997, focusing on the tragic death of teenager Reena Virk. She was found dead under a bridge days after her murder by a group of teenagers she knew as friends. In real life, her death was investigated and compiled into a book by Rebecca Godfrey.

As shown in the Hulu series, 14-year-old Reena Virk is interested in rapper The notorious B.I.G. since all her peers are passionate about him. They try to contact his spirit through an Ouija board after his death. The plot also shows Reena's uncle buying her one of the rapper's CDs, Life After Death, even though the family's faith does not allow this form of entertainment.
