Koketia King's story will be told in the upcoming episode of Investigation Discovery's true crime series, Very Scary People. The episode titled Thomas the Terrible is about the murder of Lisa Amodio Riley, who was shot to death by her husband, Yathomas Riley.
However, Lisa Amodio Riley was not the first victim of Yathomas Riley. He had shot his former girlfriend, Koketia King, in the face five years earlier. He was released after spending two years in prison due to a lack of evidence against him. Koketia King currently lives in Austin, Texas.
Very Scary People has been hosted by Donnie Wahlberg since 2019 and is currently in its sixth season. It airs on Investigation Discovery every Sunday at 9 pm Eastern Time. Here's how the platform describes the show:
"Host Donnie Wahlberg looks at some of the most-frightening killers in history, retracing their backgrounds, psychology, motives, and how they were eventually caught."
Koketia was shot twice by her former boyfriend
In the next episode of Very Scary People, titled Thomas the Terrible, host Donnie Wahlberg will narrate the story of Yathomas Riley, an amateur boxer from Florida, who shot two of his partners.
His first victim was his girlfriend, Koketia King, whom the boxer attacked on June 10, 2010, as per a report by The Cauldron. Koketia was a state correctional officer at the Dade Correctional Institution in Florida City. She had met Yathomas Riley and began dating him around 2003. The couple welcomed their first and only child together in September 2006.
However, according to Koketia, things took a violent turn after a heated argument over an unspecified subject, which led to Yathomas Riley firing two shots at her. She was rushed to the hospital and managed to survive her wounds. On the other hand, Riley claimed that she shot herself after he caught her engaging in tax fraud on duty inside the jail, as per The Cauldron.
Riley was apprehended by the authorities and tried for attempted first-degree murder. However, after a couple of years in prison confinement, he was released in 2012 as the prosecution could not gather enough evidence against him, as per an August 2012 report by ESPN. Koketia told different versions of what happened between the couple and even lied to the police about a key piece of evidence, further weakening her case against Riley.
The accused later shot and killed his wife, Lisa Amodio Riley, on July 10, 2015, per a report by Miami New Times. Though he presented himself to be innocent, his connection with Koketia's attempted murder case made him the prime suspect in Lisa's murder. On June 24, 2016, he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
