Virgin River season 5 ended with a cliffhanger
Mel arrived in Virgin River seeking refuge from the traumatic memories of her past. However, episode 12 of season 5, titled Father Christmas, brought her past full circle by introducing a crucial character from it.
Toward the end of season 5, Mel and Jack figured out that her father had been living in Virgin River all along. They went to his residence to talk to him, but to Mel’s dismay, he did not want to associate with her.
During the Christmas festivities that concluded season 5, Mel’s father showed up and struck up a conversation with her. A visibly emotional Mel listened as her father exclaimed how she was quite like her mother and how, because of that, he could not bear to get close to her.
He assured her that he had changed. As Mel and her father were moving toward a reconciliation, something disturbed the peace of the moment. He informed her that there was something important he had to tell her. However, this important bit of information was not revealed in the Virgin River season 5 finale. Fans will have to wait for season 6 to know about that.

Mel and Jack go through ups and downs
Mel and Jack’s romance has been one of the prominent subjects of the series, driving much of the plot and generating significant emotional appeal. In season 5, their relationship underwent cheerful and challenging times by turns.
At the beginning of Virgin River season 5, it was shown that Mel was pregnant with Jack’s child. This ushered in a new wave of romance between the couple. However, things took a sad turn when Mel suffered from a miscarriage, dashing her hopes of motherhood for the time being.
Their relationship continued to be troubled by Charmaine, who insisted that Jack was the father of her twins. Naturally, this upset Mel. However, in a pivotal moment, Charmaine revealed that her children’s father was not Jack but Calvin. Given the latter’s reputation as a disgraced drug lord, she kept it hidden.
With the hurdle posed by Charmaine removed, Mel and Jack’s relationship found some renewed footing as they set out to solve the mystery of Mel’s father, who was apparently living in Virgin River. By the end of season 5, the couple seemed happy with each other.
