After six seasons of a complicated relationship brewing between Mel and Jack, the duo finally tied the knot at a wedding attended by the whole town. Before they did that, Jack took Mel to the riverside—a place they went to on their first date—to find some peace and commit to each other.
Elsewhere, Everett failed to walk Mel down the aisle since he suffered from a health scare but was able to sing a song at the reception. It was Doc who walked her down the aisle.
Virgin River ended its current season on a cliffhanger that showed Charmaine going MIA at Mel and Jack's wedding, prompting Jack to go check on her. Jack found her house ransacked with her and her children missing. This comes close to the heels of Charmaine taking out a restraining order against her children's biological father, Calvin, a local drug lord.
What can fans expect in Virgin River season 7? Read on to find out.
1) Virgin River season 7 sees Mel and Jack adopt a baby, explore life as a married couple
Towards the end of season 6, Denny and Lizzie, who are expecting a baby soon, get news that their baby's adopted parents backed off. Lizzie, also Mel's patient, asks her to adopt her child. Viewers of the series know that Mel has been trying to have a baby and suffered a miscarriage in season 5.
Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan, told Netflix's Tudum:
"We saw the tragedy with the miscarriage in season 5, and Mel deciding that with all the past trauma that she's experienced around not being able to conceive or losing babies, she's done. I think it was really interesting to see the couple have to go through something so dark together and then find a way through that actually made them closer and stronger."
Besides adopting a baby, the newlyweds will have to navigate married life together and living on a farm.
2) Hope and Doc rekindle their romance
Hope and Doc rekindled their relationship after being apart for a few years. As per Deadline Hope's ex-husband Roland will make an appearance in Virgin River season 7. Hope's past will also be explored in the upcoming season.
For Doc, his clinic's future is in jeopardy in Virgin River season 7. Hope, who is the mayor of the town, gets a call informing her that a bigger hospital network, Grace Valley Hospital, is looking to expand into Virgin River. This might spell doom for his clinic.
3) Kaia and Preacher's future will be explored in Virgin River season 7
Meanwhile, Kaia and Preacher reconnected during the town's wildfire and confessed their feelings for each other. She even stood by his side when he faced a complicated criminal trial.
Although they have feelings for each other, Kaia realizes that she's still processing the failure of her first marriage. Virgin River season 7 will continue to explore their relationship, though a commitment is currently off the table.
4) Will Brie and Brady get back together?
Perhaps the most shocking storyline of Virgin River was Mike proposing to Brie despite knowing she cheated on him with Brady. Brady and Brie confessed their feelings for each other at Mel and Jack's wedding. Now Brie has to decide if she will choose Mike or Brady.
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Time magazine about Brie's brewing conflict between the two men:
"With Brady, there's passion and s*x, and with Mike, there's safety, stability, and comfort. Both of those are important qualities in a relationship, but Brie is in this unenviable place where she's getting one from one guy and one from another and she can't choose which path is best."
Viewers can expect the Brady-Brie-Mike-Lark love rectangle to come to some sort of resolution. Moreover, Brady will also go on a journey to find Lark and her daughter. Lark overheard Brady confessing his feelings to Brie, leading her to empty his bank account and suddenly disappear with her daughter.
5) Charmaine's babies are safe
Smith confirmed to Deadline that Charmaine's babies are indeed safe, but what happened to her will be revealed in Virgin River season 7. Although the show does not point to Calvin's involvement, speculation suggests he may be behind her disappearance.
6) Muriel's cancer treatments
In season 6, it was revealed that Muriel has breast cancer. In Virgin River season 7, Muriel will undergo extensive treatments as she grapples with the diagnosis. As she battles the disease with a sunny disposition, her sewing circle, her friends, and her community will come together to help her get through this.
7) Mark Ghanime won't be a series regular anymore
Unfortunately, Smith confirmed to TVLine that Mark Ghanime, who plays Cameron, Muriel's ex-lover, will not be returning to the show as a series regular. He will, however, make guest appearances on episodes as and when needed. He briefly appeared in season 6 to give Muriel closure.
8) Everett and Sarah's story in a spinoff show
Smith confirmed that a prequel to Virgin River is in the works that tells Sarah and Everett's love story in detail. Season 6 showed flashbacks of Mel's biological parents' budding romance in the 1970s. Their stories will be further explored in the spinoff series.
9) Mel's backstory of becoming a midwife and nurse
Virgin River season 7 will also explore Mel's backstory—specifically how she became a midwife and nurse. Speaking to Deadline, Smith said:
"We are exploring a little bit more of Mel's origins as a midwife, which we understand led to her choice of becoming a nurse, and a bit of her calling came from the emotional experience she had with her mother's illness and passing."
Virgin River season 7 is currently in its writing stage. The script is expected to be completed by January 2025, with filming beginning in the spring of next year.
