After months of inactivity, Prime Video's acclaimed Neil Gaiman adaptation has finally received an update but it seems that it wasn't really a good one for fans waiting for Good Omens season 3. Though the series was renewed for a third season in December 2024, it halted production after allegations of s*xual misconduct came up against Neil Gaiman, the creator of the show and the author of the book that the show is based on.
Amazon revealed that Good Omens season 3 will be only one episode long, something that is unusual for television shows. Especially with a lot of the story left to wrap up, this has come as a huge shock to fans, who were enraged that the series would wrap up in such an undesirable way.
Social media platforms like X became a breeding ground for debate after this was announced, with some fans more sympathetic than others. User @Sweeney_Daily summed up the wave of disappointment going through the hearts of the fans, saying:
"We’re about to receive the worst ending in Television history."
Other users also weighed in their opinions about this, with many understanding the cause and others simply being disappointed with the decision.
"At least they're giving it a conclusion, but one 90-minute episode can hardly do it justice for any show," another user wrote.
"I respect the decision, but I really wish the writer they brought in could handle a whole series. It’s hard to imagine how everything will be wrapped up in just 90 minutes," another user commented.
"We used to call those 'movies,'" a user added, taking a dig at the decission to have only one long episode.
"That's quite a significant change for "Good Omens." Ending with a 90-minute episode instead of a full Season 3 is unexpected. It's unfortunate that these allegations have impacted the project. I hope the new writer can bring it to a satisfying conclusion," another user said.
The single-episode conclusion may just be satisfactory enough but the reactions about the same are not so satisfactory. More details about this micro-sized Good Omens season 3 should arrive soon.
Why is Good Omens season 3 wrapping up with only one episode?
The primary reason for Good Omens season 3 ending with only one episode is Neil Gaiman's exit from the show following the allegations of s*xual assault against him. Earlier this year, while Good Omens season 3 was already in the middle of production, a podcast detailing allegations against the novelist came out, where as many as five women accused him of s*xual misconduct.
Though Gaiman did not accept the charges, he distanced himself from Good Omens, allowing the show to continue. Now, the third season is set to begin filming in early 2025.
Since Neil Gaiman served as the creator and showrunner for the show, it perhaps decided to wrap up with one episode, putting the series to bed.
More details about Good Omens season 3 are expected soon.
