“We’re still waiting to find that out” —Jeff Bridges on The Old Man season 3 update and his upcoming plans

The Old Man season 3 is set up to include high-stakes drama following the season 2 finale episode, which aired on October 24, 2024. The shocking revelations, changing dynamics, and shifting loyalties came to a head in the show's latest episode, giving way to many explosive and heartwarming moments.

The series is based on Thomas Perry's 2017 novel of the same name. It is developed by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and produced by Judd Rea. Moreover, Dan Shotz, Craig Silverstein, Warren Littlefield, Ann Johnson, and others serve as the show's executive producers.

The thriller series aired its first season on FX on June 16, 2022, and its second season on September 12, 2024. But, the show has not been officially confirmed for a third season, as of this writing.

Jeff Bridges, who plays the CIA operative Dan Chase in the series, hinted about The Old Man season 3 while speaking to Collider on October 24, 2024:

"I don’t know if The Old Man is gonna get picked up for a third season. We’re still waiting to find that out. If it is, I’ll start working on that."

The Old Man season 2 ended with Emily and Chase all set to go after Marion to save the kidnapped Harold Harper. Although The Old Man season 3 has not been greenlit as of yet, fans of the spy thriller are eager to get any updates from the show's cast members.

Amy Brenneman, who plays Zoe McDonald, recently shared her views on why The Old Man season 3 is on the cards. During the Bingeworthy podcast in October 2024, she said it "would be kind of odd if there wasn't" another season of the show and went on to add further:

"I know [Jonathan E.] Steinberg always saw this as a... he called it a three act play. And so, we feel like Season 2 is in the middle of this really awesome story and where the characters are coming into their own in different ways."

Meanwhile, the show's leading star, Jeff Bridges, remained tight-lipped about potential storylines for season 3 while speaking to Collider. Moreover, he said that he will "start working on" The Old Man season 3 once it gets greenlit.

Bridges also spoke about his next acting project:

"I’m also working on an interesting film, called Grendel, about the monster in Beowulf. That should be an interesting experience. Other than that, I don’t really know too much."

Plot summary

At the start of the FX series, the former CIA agent Dan Chase is being tracked down by his ex-colleague and the FBI Assistant Director, Harold Harper. Chase, who went into hiding 30 years ago, has been living in Vermont ever since by using different aliases.

The two men share a complicated past, that also involves the FBI agent Emily/Angela. Chase had raised the young Emily for a few years, before she was adopted by Harper and became known as Angela.

After they learn that Emily has been kidnapped by the Afghan warlord Faraz Hamzad, the two men form an alliance to save their missing daughter. However, it is later revealed that Hamzad is the biological father of Emily, whose real name is Parwana Hamzad.

By the end of season 2, Emily reunites with Chase and enlists his help in rescuing Harper, who has been abducted by his ex-wife Marion. Although initially hesitant, Chase gets on board after realizing that Emily holds much more power than he previously thought.
