The series follows people living in a barrio in Mexico City. The central characters are two brothers Javo and Mike, and their childhood friend Santos. Joshua Ernesto Okamoto Brambila is a Mexican actor who rose to prominence by playing Manuel in Netflix's international hit series Narcos: Mexico. Born in Saitama, Japan, the actor is also known for Control Z, Sexo, pudor y lágrimas 2, and Muerte en verano.

2) Ingrid Aguila as Malena

Ingrid Aguilla is playing Malena, Santos's mother who gets romantically involved with one of Santos's closest friends Javo who is several years younger than her. Their relationship causes a stir in the group as Santos has a violent reaction when he finds out about the affair. She is also a small-time jellyfish seller who barely makes ends meet.

Manuel Villegas plays the character of Santos in We Were Kings, Javo and Mike's childhood friend, who is training under Mike to become a police officer. He has spent all his life around Mike and Javo and is devastated to find that Javo is romantically involved with his mother Malena.
