Featuring illustrations by Les Edwards, Stinger has earned several accolades including a Bram Stoker Award and a Locus Award. It also earned the reputation of a New York Times bestselling novel during the time of its release.

According to Subterranean Press, the gist of the book is:

"The story takes place during a single twenty-four hour period in Inferno, Texas. Inferno is a town in trouble, driven to the brink by racial tension, gang violence, and a collapsing economy.

It also adds:

But things can always get worse, and they do so with astonishing speed when an unidentified spacecraft crash lands in the desert outside of town, followed by a second craft bearing the alien being who will soon be known as Stinger."

The synopsis also mentions that Stinger represents a type of interstellar hunter who is determined to accomplish his mission, no matter the consequences. He is equipped with a vast range of technological gadgets along with an unparalleled ability to cause destruction. This makes him a significant threat to Inferno, its residents, and the world beyond that.

Ian McCulloch on the differences between the main text and his adaptation of the same in Teacup

While speaking to Entertainment Weekly during the 2024 Comic-Con, showrunner Iam McCulloch spoke about how Teacup was different from the Stinger novel. Speaking about the same he revealed that a big portion of the novel's material had been discarded in its original form and reinvented differently in the show. He said:

"The book’s a very big book. It’s got a lot of set pieces, a lot of characters. What I wanted to do was take all that away and keep the ideas of the book.I wanted to make something where even if you read the book, you don’t know what’s gonna happen. Part of that was making a minimalist story. It was a maximalist piece of fiction. I made it very grounded."

Teacup will have eight episodes in total with the first two releasing on October 10, 2024, and the rest releasing every week until October 31, 2024.
