With the success of the mockumentary television series Cunk on Earth, Diane Morgan is returning as Philomena Cunk with Cunk on Life, which will venture into the deeper questions of life and existence. This new Christmas edition BBC documentary will examine some of the most important questions that the human race has ever asked, like "What's the point of it all?"

To answer this, Philomena Cunk will tackle some of the most complex concepts and philosophies that have been discovered by humankind. These will include Quantum Physics, Existentialism, Nihilism, and Hedonism, exploring subjects like biology, morality, and artificial intelligence.

In this quest, she'll talk to leading experts in these fields, asking them complex questions until she gets to the bottom of life's mysteries of life that intrigue humans.

Cunk on Life: Release date and where to watch?

Cunk on Life is all set to air on BBC Two and iPlayer on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 9 pm in the UK. However, for those outside the United Kingdom, the mockumentary special will be available to stream on Netflix starting January 2, 2025.


What is the mockumentary all about?

The official synopsis of Cunk on Life, as per BBC Two, reads as follows:

"Pioneering documentary maker Philomena Cunk returns with her most ambitious quest to date: venturing right up the universe and everything to examine life and existence in an attempt to find out the point of it all. Along the way, she interrogates experts on subjects from the big bang to biology and art to artificial intelligence. Really get to the nub of it."

In this edition of the documentary, the ill-informed investigative reporter, Cunk, will tackle some of the most difficult questions regarding life known to humans. She will be talking to academicians and subject experts, asking them difficult questions in order to have answers.

In this quest for knowledge, she will also examine some of history's foremost figures, like Dostoyevsky, Van Gogh, and Nietzsche, to really get to the bottom of the mysteries of life.


About Philomena Cunk

Philomena Cunk is a fictional BBC investigative reporter who is portrayed by comedian and actor Diane Morgan. Cunk is a documentary host who brings viewers absurdly incorrect observations about serious topics with a deadpan approach and a uniquely clueless style of delivery.

Morgan first played the character on the review program Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe from 2013 to 2020. She returned to play the role again on Cunk on Britain (2018) and Cunk on Earth (2022) and will once again reprise her role for the upcoming Cunk on Life.

Diane Morgan is also known for her character Liz on the BBC Two sitcom Motherland (2016–2022) and Kath in the Netflix dark comedy series After Life (2019–2022). She has also written and starred in the BBC Two comedy series Mandy (2019–present).


Diane Morgan is set to host the new BBC mockumentary directed by Al Campbell, with Charlie Brooker as the creator and writer. Besides Morgan, the writing team includes Ben Caudell, Erika Ehler, Charlie George, Eli Goldstone, Jason Hazeley, Lucia Keskin, Joel Morris, and Michael Odewale. Susie Hall produces the mockumentary alongside EPs Brooker, Annabel Jones, Ali Marlow, and Ben Cavey.
