Only Murders in the Building season 4 is now in full swing, with a fascinating story that keeps getting better by the episode and a thoughtful mystery, which is still far from a resolution.
The latest episode of the show, which premiered on September 17, 2024, only pushed things further, tangling the protagonists in an unforeseen web. That leaves the next episode with the mammoth task of living up to the brilliant cliffhanger.
Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 5 is set to premiere on September 24, 2024, and will take viewers back to the recently introduced characters from Hollywood. Moreover, it will also depict what happens after the tense events of episode 4, which ended with no reassurance about the primary characters' well-being.
Ahead of the fifth episode next week, here's what you can expect from Only Murders in the Building season 4 next week.
Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 5: What to expect?
So far, the series has alternatively brought out the Hollywood crowd, a trend it perhaps intends to continue in the upcoming episodes.
We were introduced to Eva Longoria, Zach Galifianakis and Eugene Levy playing themselves in the first episode, which also gave us our first glimpse of characters like Bev Melon (Molly Shannon), a ruthless Paramount Pictures executive who seemed to harbor a secret.
The second episode didn't feature anyone from Hollywood (inside the universe, of course) while the third one, once again, did. The latest episode also strayed away from the LA crowd for the most part while the next one will be all about the Hollywood crowd, as per synopsis.
The upcoming episode is also titled Adaptation, referring to the film adaptation of the podcast, which kickstarted this season's story. The synopsis reads:
"The trio face off against a collection of individuals who deceive, manipulate, and threaten as second nature - a Hollywood cast & crew."
As the upcoming episode has to pick up from the cliffhanger, the first thing we expect to find out is why Bev Melon is at Sazz's purchased property and why is she drawing a gun at Mabel (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin) and Oliver (Martin Short).
It seems that the Hollywood crowd is somehow directly involved with the murder of Sazz, which the trio thought was committed by the West Tower residents. While we cannot rule that out either, the episode proved the West Tower residents are not the dangerous criminals that Mabel, Charles and Oliver thought they would be.
However, Bev Melon didn't seem as innocent at the end of Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 4, which hinted that there's still a lot to unpack this season.
A brief recap of Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 4
In the fourth episode of the Hulu show, Mabel continued squatting the apartment of Dudenoff in hopes of catching him. But instead, she encountered the other residents doing something fishy. They explained to her that Dudenoff was a retired professor living in Portugal who rented them the apartments for very cheap. They were now planning to sublet it illegally.
That convinced Mabel that the West Tower residents were weird but no mastermind criminals.
On the other side, the trio also investigated the stunt circle, which eventually led Charles to the realization that Sazz was not able to cope with the physical stress of performing stunts anymore and wanted to retire and open her trampoline park. She had even purchased a space for the same.
The trio ended up going to the space at the end of the episode but were greeted by Bev Melon, who pointed a gun at them. The episode ended there, on a cliffhanger.
Only Murders in the Building season 4 episode 5 will air on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
