The horrific murder of Aileen Seiden shocked the residents of Florida back in April 2018 as her body was dumped on the side of a deserted road and was found in a dilapidated state. The case appeared to be a lot more complicated than it seemed and it took a lot of time for Seiden to get justice.
Season 34 episode 10 of 48 Hours on CBS will focus on this homicide. The episode, titled, Who Killed Aileen Seiden in Room 15?, will air on CBS on October 19, 2024, at 10 pm EST. The logline for the same reads:
"Three people check into a Florida motel room. Only two walk out alive. "
Aileen Seiden was severely beaten and dumped on the side of a road
As per reports by CBS News, Aileen Seiden, the youngest daughter of businessman Frank M. Seiden, was beaten to death and stabbed. Her lifeless body was found dumped near a northern Florida road, on the side of Highway 98, on April 23, 2018, days after she was murdered.
Reportedly, Aileen Seiden was brutally beaten up and suffered broken ribs, a fractured skull, and broken limbs. Authorities suspected that she was first beaten up in the motel room, where she was staying, as it was covered in blood, and later her body was disposed of by the killer/killers. They even speculated that Aileen could have been alive, even after her body was dumped.
As reported by CBS, lead investigator Ronnie Jones described the victim after she was discovered, saying:
"She had bruises … from head to toe, covering her entire body.... She suffered … I've never seen anything like it."
Who killed Aileen Seiden?
The detectives investigating this case learned that Seiden was in a love triangle with Zachary Abell and Christina Araujo. A day before she was murdered, she was with Abell and Araujo. The three of them had stopped at Sportman’s Lodge in Eastpoint, and occupied room 15, where Seiden was killed later.
The detectives speculated that the trio, later turned duo (Zachary Abell and Christina Araujo) killed Seiden and later fled the scene.
Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Tony Smith spoke to CBS News about this case and said that:
"It's some kind of a love triangle. We believe the male suspect may have been involved with both women. We know he's abused both women in the past. He's a real low-life, a thug."
Reportedly, both the prime suspects had fled to a friend's house after murdering their partner. Later, this friend, who chose to remain anonymous, called the detectives with an unidentified tip, telling them that Abell and Araujo had confessed to Seiden's murder.
Zachary Abell and Christina Araujo were both arrested for the murder of Aileen Seiden on April 24, 2018. The duo spent several years in prison. Araujo, however, pled guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years behind bars in 2023.
Abell, on the other hand, was also convicted of second-degree murder, accessory after the fact of second-degree murder, and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced to life in prison in 2024.
