Alex Woodworth was stabbed several times
Alex Woodworth, was 24 years old when he was found murdered on March 22, 2018. The killer had stabbed him in the groin, neck, torso, and head. In total, he was stabbed sixteen times.

Who killed Alex Woodworth?
As per reports by CBS, Alex Woodworth was murdered by Monica Kay or Ezra J. McCandless, a Wisconsin resident, and Woodworth's ex-girlfriend. Two weeks after Alex was killed, his girlfriend Ezra McCandless was arrested and in 2019, she was charged with first-degree intentional homicide.
Initially, she did not plead guilty to the crime and kept recanting her statements in several interviews with the detectives. During the initial interrogations, she said that she did not remember what had happened and had no memory of it. Later, she changed her statement and said that the victim had attacked her and also carved 'Boy' in her hand with a knife.
However, later it was found that the wounds on Ezra McCandless were self-inflicted, which she confessed to later. Reportedly, McCandless was also linked to the murder weapon, a knife, which was given to her by her father.
In 2019, McCandless testified that she killed Woodworth in self-defense. As per her testimony, she did not want to be with the victim anymore and therefore he attacked her, after which she stabbed him in self-defense. However, the jury did not find this story convincing enough.
McCandless was previously dating Jason Mengel, a medic. However, she had an affair with Woodworth at the same time, and Jason ended their relationship after learning about the same. Allegedly, McCandless wanted to get back Jason and as per the prosecution, she killed Woodworth so he would not come in between the two lovers.
She was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide on November 1, 2019, and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 50 years on February 7, 2020.
