Who is Anthony Gibson and what happened to him?
Anthony Shane Gibson was born in 1994 and grew up in Harpersville, Alabama. He was good in his studies and quite popular at school from a young age. Despite being raised by a single father, he grew up sheltered among a loving extended family. After high school, Gibson joined his family's company. Additionally, he hoped to get into his own business someday.
Because he had been a popular figure all his life and kept plenty of contacts, people started noticing when he went silent on July 2, 2015. Just three days later, a couple driving through rural Leeds, Alabama, found a dead body on a site that resembled an old campsite. The victim was reportedly burned beyond recognition.
The authorities were able to lift a fingerprint of the dead body, which led to the identification of the deceased as Anthony Gibson. A coroner's report stated the victim had "a broken femur and had severe hemorrhaging around that wound." Gibson had allegedly died from a gunshot wound, after which his body was set on fire.
Upon investigation, the authorities tracked down Candie Zito, a former lover of Gibson's, who reportedly lured him into her house before she and her cousin, Corey, murdered him. When the police tried to reach Candie, she and her cousin tried to get on a high-speed chase, which ultimately ended up injuring them both severely.
Corey Zito, against whom police found evidence of a romantic relationship with his cousin Candie, was even in a coma. Candie initially tried to misdirect the investigation, saying Gibson was trying to se*ually assault her. But her cellmate later revealed that she had admitted to killing Anthony Gibson herself before trying to dispose of the body with the help of her cousin.
She even reportedly wanted her cousin to not wake up from the coma, fearing that their stories would not match. But when they were finally charged with the crime, Candie and Corey Zito took a plea deal in exchange for a 20-year prison sentence.
Currently, both Corey and Candie Zito are serving their time in prison.
