Claudia is a central character in Interview with the Vampire along with Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson) and Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid). She made her first appearance in season 1 episode 3 of the AMC series, which aired in 2022.

Her character arc on the show closely follows Anne Rice’s 1976 eponymous novel, which is the source material for the series. According to the latest aired episode (season 2 episode 3), Claudia is in Paris with Louis and has been made a member of the Théâtre des Vampires coven, led by Armand.

But as per the book, Claudia dies in Paris from exposure to the sun after being dumped into a cavernous hole by the French vampires.

The television series Interview with the Vampire is the third iteration of the story, following Anne Rice's 1976 eponymous book and the 1994 film starring Tom Cruise (Lestat) and Brad Pitt (Louis) in lead roles.

In the book, Claudia's past catches up with her in Paris when her maker Lestat, whom she left for dead in New Orleans, arrives in the city seeking revenge. He informs Armand (his former lover) that Claudia and Louis tried to kill him before fleeing New Orleans. Since it is forbidden to kill a vampire in their world, the act itself is punishable by death. Therefore, the French coven decides to kill her.

Thus, Claudia meets her end by being exposed to sunlight and reduced to ash. Moreover, Louis also gets a death sentence, but he gets saved by Armand since he harbors romantic feelings for the American vampire.

Furthermore, Claudia is not dead in the series so far and, according to the latest episode that was aired on May 26, 2024, she becomes a member of the Théâtre des Vampires coven and looking forward to her first performance onstage with her fellow theater-inclined vampires.

How old was Claudia when she turned into a vampire?

This one's not as straightforward so, bear with us for a minute.

In Anne Rice's book, Claudia is written as a 5-year-old vampire, meaning she was turned at the age of five. Rice based the character on her daughter Michele's death from cancer at the age of five.

Furthermore, in the movie, Claudia was played by a then-11-year-old Kirsten Dunst in one of her earliest film roles. Although her age is not explicitly mentioned in the film, Claudia is around the age of 11, like the actress portraying her was.

The series, however, decided to slightly age her and made her turn into a vampire at 14 years of age. This interesting change depicts Claudia in a more mature light and makes her story even more tragic. Denied the ability to experience normal teenage milestones, Claudia represents a woman trapped in a young girl's body who is doomed to a life of loneliness. Thus, making her very angry and frustrated at her situation.

Apart from this show, Bailey has appeared as Tsireya 'Reya' in James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water in 2022. But, she was replaced by actress Delainey Hayles in the second season of the show.

Bailey addressed her departure from the show in the Instagram post below:

She continues:

"I wish Delainey Hayles the best of luck in taking over. I cannot wait to watch. I'm extremely appreciative to AMC, The producers, Jacob, Sam, Eric, the crew and, of course, the wonderful fans."

Delainey Hayles stepped into the role from the start of season 2. As four years have passed between the events of season 1 and season 2, she looks the part of a more mature Claudia. Delainey's acting credits include other television shows like Holby City and Too Close.

The acclaimed gothic horror series is available on AMC and its streaming platform AMC+ for viewers to watch.
