The first couple of episodes of Tell Me Lies season 2 are now available on Hulu, bringing more twisted drama and suspense as Lucy, Stephen, and their friend group return to Baird College for the sophomore year.
However, a notable absence this season is Drew, played by Benjamin Wadsworth. His character has yet to appear, leaving viewers to speculate about his disappearance. Moreover, his story during the season 1 finale left viewers with a whole lot of loose ends and unanswered questions.
In the debut season, Drew bears the brunt of the fallout of Macy's death. Stephen sets him up to make it seem that he caused Macy's death, and some of their friends believe he is responsible for the accident. All of these led to a series of events, including Lucy and Stephen's breakup, Drew's brother Wrigley and Pippa breaking up, and Wrigley missing out on the quarterback position.
What happened to Drew in Tell Me Lies season 1?
Drew's involvement in Macy's accident and eventual death was revealed as early as episode 2 of the first season of Tell Me Lies. He told his brother, Wrigley, and Stephen about the accident and that he opted out of calling the police at that time because he had been drinking and was afraid of the consequences.
Although it was a mistake not to report the accident, his eventual downfall was orchestrated by someone else. In Tell Me Lies season 1 episode 6, Stephen lets it slip to Lucy, who was his girlfriend at the time, some crucial details about the night of the incident. He told her that he was inside Macy's car when it crashed that night and that Drew was the driver of the other car that almost collided with them.
After knowing those details, Lucy is convinced that Drew is responsible for Macy's death. For anyone who knows Lucy and Stephen's dynamic, Lucy is the kind to do everything to protect and save her boyfriend. With the information she knew about Drew that night, Lucy sent an anonymous letter to the Dean, saying that they should investigate Drew's involvement in Macy's death.
That letter essentially started a series of events that sent Drew to his downfall, bringing down some people along the way. After learning about the letter, Drew accused Pippa of sending the anonymous letter to the Dean. This accusation was influenced by Stephen, who had planted the idea that Pippa was the one who sent it in hopes that he could save his reputation and friendship with Drew.
When Drew confronted Pippa about the letter, it led to a fistfight between the brothers Drew and Wrigley, who was Pippa's boyfriend. The fight led to Wriglet falling off a balcony, and with the injury, he's off the team. Wrigley also broke up with Pippa, and without their star player, the football team blamed Pippa for it.
Tell Me Lies season 1 finale revealed that Stephen was driving Macy's car during the accident. He was high at that time but still decided he was fit to drive. Macy was in the passenger seat when another car, the one Drew was driving, nearly hit them and caused Stephen to crash Macy's car into a tree.
Macy died on impact, and Stephen manipulated the situation. He placed Macy's body on the driver's seat to make it seem like she was driving. He also erased evidence from his BlackBerry that showed Macy had called him to join her at the party that night. Stephen walked home and left Macy to be found by authorities. Meanwhile, he let Drew believe that he was responsible for Macy's death by almost colliding with her car and not calling the police instead of coming clean.
Will Benjamin Wadsworth's Drew come back in Tell Me Lies season 2?
The question of Drew's whereabouts lingers in Tell Me Lies season 2. His last appearance was during the confrontation with Wrigley that led to the football player's injury. His absence in the first couple of episodes of season 2 has only deepened the mystery.
However, some hints from the previous season raise questions about Drew's fate. During Bree and Evan's wedding in season 1, Wrigley is high from drugs. As Lucy described him, he's a "coked-up gorilla." However, Evan butted in, saying, "It was his brother's birthday yesterday, so maybe take it easy on him."
Evan's comments suggest that something monumental happened to Drew between the events of Wrigley's injury and the wedding. Drew could have moved away and become estranged from his brother after causing the injury incident. Or he could have been dead, which would also explain Wrigley's downward spiral.
So far, there is no definite answer as to whether Benjamin Wadsworth will come back to reprise his role as Drew in the latest season of Tell Me Lies.
