Ed Bozarth, full name Edward Bozarth, was found murdered in his boat, a Screw U-2, on July 1, 2007. The Florida Keys police had to run through a long list of suspects to find the real killer. This case not only shook the Florida residents but was also brainier for the Keys detectives.
Season 3 episode 6 of Killer Relationships with Faith Jenkins will replay this brutal homicide. It will air on 21 September 2024 at 8 p.m. EST on Oxygen. The episode is titled Beneath the Surface and the synopsis for the same reads:
"Ed Bozarth lives life on the sea, but paradise turns deadly when the dashing adventurer is found dead on his boat in Key Largo, Fla. Just below the surface, investigators discover a secret past, a life full of intrigue and enemies within."
Ed Bozarth's skull was hammered by the killer
Ed Bozarth’s body was found in a horrific state. The killer smashed his skull with a hammer, as per CBS. His dead body was put in a body bag and stored in the boat's engine room. A belt was wrapped around his neck and Ed was found tied up in the fetal position with a towel covering his head.
The body was discovered days after his death, once the boat crew decided to check the engine room as there was a foul smell emanating from there.
Suspects in this case
The police started investigating and interrogating Ed’s wife, Denise Bozarth. Apart from Denise, there was also a security guard named Dave Campbell who was on the list of suspects.
According to CBS, despite the fact that Denise was married to Ed Bozarth, it was revealed that she and Dave had an extramarital affair and that she had left Ed before his death. Additionally, it was revealed that before Ed's passing, Denise had asked for a divorce.
Authorities soon found out that Ed had more than $600,000 in a trust fund, which was passed down to him upon his mother’s death. When the cops investigated Ed’s wife, she blamed the murder on Dave Campbell, the marina security guard.
When Campbell was interrogated, he revealed a very crucial piece of information: Denise wanted to kill her husband and would often agree to pay $10,0000 to anyone who would kill Ed Bozarth and make his death look like an accident.
Arrests
As per reports by CBS, Dennis Bozarth, Ed's wife, failed a polygraph test in 2007. She didn’t confess to the crime and said that Ed would abuse her physically. However, in 2012, she pleaded guilty once she was arrested and also revealed that she was solely responsible for killing Ed. Allegedly, according to Denise, Ed tried to shoot her with a gun, and to save herself, she hammered his skull and killed him.
In 2014, Dennis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 14 years in prison after a judge ruled her previous confession invalid, citing claims that the accused wanted a lawyer and wasn’t allowed to have one when she confessed.
Dennis Bozarth has already finished her prison sentence and is now a free woman.
