Felicity Huffman, known for her role as Lynette Scavo on Desperate Housewives, was part of a group that was named and charged by the U.S. Attorney's Office on March 12, 2019, in connection with a nationwide cheating scandal involving college entrance exams.
The authorities alleged that Felicity Huffman had paid a significant amount of money ($15,000 to be specific) as a donation to the Key Worldwide Foundation which was in reality, a fee paid by her to someone who would pose as her daughter Sophia while taking the SAT, that would result in her scoring more than anticipated.
After her falsity came to light, she was arrested from her home in California on March 12, 2024, by the authorities and charged with allegations of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services fraud.
After some to and fro that involved her taking responsibility for the crimes as well as her being sentenced, on September 13, 2019, she was eventually sentenced to 14 days in jail along with a year of supervised release. Additionally, she was fined $30,000 and ordered to do 250 hours of community service.
