Julianne Hough shared an update about her brother, Derek Hough, and his wife, Hayley Erbert, during the 77th Tony Awards at the David H. Koch Theater in New York City. Walking the red carpet, she took a moment to speak to ET's Rachel Smith on Sunday and gave some insight into Hayley's recovery journey following an emergency craniectomy last year.

"They're doing amazing! I mean, Hayley went back out on tour with Derek and they're thriving," she said.

Erbert was admitted to the hospital on December 6 after she became "disoriented"’ during a performance in Washington, D. C. Derek Hough shared the news on Instagram and mentioned that she was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a burst blood vessel. She needed a craniectomy and underwent emergency skull surgery.

"At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy. She is in stable condition," Derek shared.

However, she returned to perform on the Derek Hough: A Symphony Of Dance tour in April after it was put on hold due to her health.

Julianne Hough expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from fans during these challenging months. "Thank you for all of your love and we all felt it," she mentioned, emphasizing the positive impact of fans' wishes on Hayley Erbert's recovery journey.

Julianne Hough reflects on supporting her family through crisis

At the grand opening of her Kinrgy studio with Xponential Fitness in West Hollywood, Julianne Hough spoke to E! News, shedding light on the importance of self-trust and security in being able to support others. Julianne explained that during her brother Derek Hough and sister-in-law Hayley Erbert's crisis, it was crucial for her to be a "stable force."

She noted that her stability was necessary and likely appreciated because it allowed her to handle tasks that Derek and Hayley were unable to focus on during that challenging time. Julianne Hough, known for her roles in Footloose and as the host of Dancing With the Stars, emphasized that she couldn't have been an anchor for her family without ensuring her own stability.

"We only have ourselves at the end of the day, and the more you can connect to yourself, the more you can relate and have compassion and empathy for the people around you," she said.

In an interview with Access Hollywood at the Tony Awards, Julianne also reflected on the significant impact of Hayley's medical condition.

“I think when you go through something like that, it not only puts things in perspective but it also changes the trajectory of what you want to do with your life,” she said.

In February 2024, Hayley shared an update on her health as she shed light on the challenging recovery process. In an Instagram post, she recounted undergoing an emergency craniotomy in early December followed by a cranioplasty a few weeks later. She expressed that she continues to experience good and bad days, both emotionally and physically, but noted her steady improvement on a daily basis.
