What happened to Lori Ruff? Details explored

Lori Erica Kennedy, originally Kimberly Maria McLean, had been living in Carrollton, Texas, in 2003 when she met Jon Blakely Ruff at Bible study class. Blake came from a well-to-do family in East Texas and their family was accepting of Lori as Blake's wife.

Despite a loving relationship, Lori chose to conceal her real identity and told Blake and his family that she grew up without a sibling with both her parents dead. Lori mentioned that her father had been a failed stockbroker and that she had grown up in Arizona. According to The Seattle Times, Lori mentioned to Blake that she had destroyed all the photos of her family as she was not happy with her childhood.

As Blake's mother intended to put their wedding announcement in the local newspaper, the couple eloped and got married in a church outside Dallas in January 2004. The newlywed couple settled down in Leonard, Texas where they had a daughter through in vitro fertilization in 2008, per The Seattle Times.

The marriage soon began to crumble as Lori grew more and more protective of her daughter. She refused to divulge details about her life while she restricted access to her daughter from her in-laws. The family began to encourage divorce and after multiple failed family counseling sessions, Blake Ruff filed for divorce and moved into his family home in Longview.

Lori Ruff was left behind with her daughter in Leonard, and the two appeared visibly weak over the next few months. Lori took the divorce hard on herself and by the fall of 2010, she was sending the Ruffs angry emails and stealing their house keys. The Ruffs had to obtain a cease and desist order against Lori.

On December 24, 2010, Lori's car was found in the driveway of the Ruffs' household with her body inside. She had shot herself to death and had left behind two suicide notes - one for her husband and one for her daughter. Blake found the letter to depict ramblings from a disturbed person.

The Ruffs went up to Lori's house after her funeral to find the state of the place to be in absolute dishevelment. The evidence at her home helped the Ruffs discover her real identity Kimberly Maria McLean with the help of a private investigator.
