Mary Yoder's murder remains one of the most fascinating cases in the history of New York. It's now also the subject of Hulu's latest true-crime docu-series, Little Miss Innocent: Passion. Poison. Prison., which covers Yoder's murder and its perpetrator, Kaitlyn Conley, who allegedly poisoned the 60-year-old to death as a form of revenge on her boyfriend, Adam, the youngest son of Mary Yoder.

The latest Hulu show examines this case in great detail and gives an insight into the mind of the killer, who was only 24 at the time. The docuseries premiered on Friday, September 20, 2024. The synopsis for the same reads:

"Tells the story of Kaitlyn Conley, a 31-year-old former receptionist who claims she has been wrongfully convicted of the 2015 killing of Mary Yoder, her former boss and the mother of her ex-boyfriend Adam."

As the series streams on Hulu, let's dive into the murder and the victim of the case, and all the events surrounding the case.

Who was Mary Yoder, and what happened to her?

Mary Yoder was born on March 18, 1955, to Arthur Charles Bakert and Norma Janet Schwartz Bakert in Buffalo, New York. She had multiple siblings and grew up in a loving household. While studying in college, she encountered William Yoder, who went by "Bill." The two hit it off and soon began seeing a future together.

Soon, Mary and William tied the knot, and she even graduated from Life Chiropractic College with a Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine. After decades of practicing the craft, she started Chiropractic Family Care in Whitesboro with William. The business reportedly took off well, and the couple remained invested in it.

Mary and William also had two daughters, Tamaryn Yoder and Liana Hegde, and one son, Adam Yoder. By 2015, she was also a grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. It seemed that everything was perfect in the life of the 60-year-old Chiropractor. But something untowardly happened on the morning of July 20, 2015.

What started off as an ordinary stomach ache only seemed to exacebate. Though Mary hoped the ache would go away, her condition significantly worsened the next day. Her husband, gravely concerned, rushed her to the hospital. However, despite receiving the best possible treatment, it was too late to save Mary Yoder, who died on July 21, 2024.

Who killed Mary Yoder?

There were initially huge doubts about who might have killed the 60-year-old lady, but an anonymous letter that tried to implicate her youngest son, Adam, started a chain reaction that would eventually lead to Kaitlyn Conley, Adam's on-and-off girlfriend for years and a former employee of Yoder.

Kaitlyn reportedly killed her to get back at Adam, which was also presented in the court by the prosecution. However, Kaitlyn didn't admit she killed Mary and still continues to protest her innocence, which is also one of the reasons Hulu focused on this case in its latest docuseries.

Kaitlyn's first trial ended in a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a verdict, but the second trial found her guilty of first-degree manslaughter. She was sentenced to 23 years in prison and continues to remain in the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, New York.
