This case is set to be the subject of 20/20 season 47 episode 13, which is set to premiere on Friday, January 17, 2025. The case remains fresh in the minds of Clermont, Florida, residents and there are still big questions about the case that remain unanswered. The synopsis for the case reads:

"Explores the mysterious disappearance and murder of Michael Shaver and the stunning revelations in Laurie Shaver’s murder trial, including exclusive interviews with law enforcement, prosecutors, family members of the victim and those who witnessed the investigation unfold firsthand."

Michael Shaver seemingly disappeared in November 2015, texting his co-workers and friends that he was moving to Georgia. However, no one saw him for years after this and that raised questions. On enquiring, the police ultimately searched his house and found his remains under a concrete slab and firepit.

Ahead of the episode, let us go over who Michael Shaver was and what had happened to him.

Who was Michael Shaver and how did he die?

Michael Shaver was born on January 14, 1982, in New York. He was raised with two siblings in the small upstate town of Utica in New York State. Laurie Shaver also grew up there and the two had been middle school sweethearts. Over the years, their mutual love grew and they decided to relocate to Florida. The couple also got married and had two children between them.

Michael worked as a monorail technician at Disney World while Laurie took care of the kids at home. Michael's disappearance was first noted when he abruptly stopped coming to work. Laurie allegedly claimed that he got into a black SUV and left the family.

A couple of years later, after Michael Shaver was not seen by anyone, his friends reported him missing. The police began investigating his disappearance in 2018. Meanwhile, Michael had only texted his contacts about not wanting to remain in touch.

When the police tried to search his house with cadaver dogs, Laurie Shaver denied the request, leading to suspicion. Soon, with a warrant, the police got K-9 units into their house and discovered Michael's remains under a concrete slab in the backyard of the Clermont house. The autopsy of the remains confirmed that it was indeed Michael and that he was shot to death.

Authorities alleged that Laurie had kept the pretense of Michael being alive by using his social media accounts and phone to text acquaintances. Right after this discovery, she became the prime suspect and was eventually convicted of the crime.

There were multiple theories that came to light, including the defense's claim that Laurie's 7-year-old daughter mistakenly pulled the trigger and killed Michael, but the jury ultimately found her guilty and sentenced her to life in prison.
