The Zodiac killer terrorized the people of Northern Carolina in the late 60s and claimed responsibility for multiple murders through letters to the police and newspapers. The murder of Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards was linked to the serial killer in 1970 by the Santa Barbara police. They were killed in Gaviota State Park beach with a .22 caliber semi-automatic firearm.
Former elementary school teacher and convicted s*x offender Arthur Leigh Allen was suspected of being the Zodiac Killer, but there wasn't enough evidence to charge him. The documentary explores new angles to the case focusing on the Seaweather family, who were close to Leigh Allen.
Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards were killed on June 4, 1963
Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards were two young high school students engaged to be married soon. Robert was 18, the youngest of the three siblings, while Linda was 17. They lived in Santa Barbara, California, and attended Lompoc High School.
The childhood friends, who had known each other for most of their lives, fell in love as they matured and decided to spend the rest of their lives together. Tragically, they were found dead on Gaviota State Park beach inside a shack on June 4, 1963. As per The Cinemaholic, Robert was reportedly shot 11 times, while Linda had been allegedly shot 8 times with a .22 caliber semi-automatic gun.
The gruesome murder of the couple and their bodies found in a remote location left the Santa Barbara police perplexed. Their hands and legs were tied up with pre-cut ropes, and Linda's swimsuit had been ripped. Their bodies were discovered away from the murder location, and nothing from their car was stolen, which meant that the crime was not committed with the intent of robbery.
Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards' murder remains unsolved
For many years, their murder case went unsolved. Then, after the crimes of the Zodiac Killer became sensational and his method of killing became public, the Santa Barbara police contacted the Vallejo police department.
In December 1968, David Arthur Faraday and Betty Lou Jensen were allegedly murdered with a .22 caliber semi-automatic gun. In September 1969, the murders of Bryan Calvin Hartnell and Cecelia Ann Shepard reportedly involved the use of pre-cut ropes. Both the murders were linked to the Zodiac killer, which raised suspicion that Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards might have been one of the earliest victims of the serial killer.
In a press release in 1972, police investigators Bill Armstrong and Dave Toschi stated that the couple's murder was now being investigated in connection with the Zodiac case.
A former elementary school teacher and convicted s*x offender, Arthur Leigh Allen was suspected of being the Zodiac Killer, but he couldn't be held for long as police couldn't find enough evidence to hold him or press charges. In his last letter in 1974, the Zodiac killer confirmed to have killed 37 victims, but all the murders, including that of Robert Domingos and Linda Edwards, remain officially unsolved.
