Worst Ex Ever: Seemona Sumasar's ordeal and fight for justice

Netflix's true crime series Worst Ex Ever shows the struggles of Seemona Sumasar, which started in 2009 when she was wrongly accused and put in jail for robberies that never happened. Her terrible situation began after she reported her ex-boyfriend, Jerry Ramrattan, for rape.

Ramrattan had a history of lying to control people. He pretended to be an NYPD detective, and when Seemona came to know the truth, she confronted him, but Jerry se*ually assaulted her.

Ramrattan weaved a complex conspiracy that included fake crimes and forced witnesses. Four different individuals in Queens and Long Island said they were robbed by a woman who looked like Seemona. They described her as she had long dark hair, a badge, and a gun.

The witnesses gave increasingly detailed descriptions, starting with a vague outline and ending with a complete license plate number that matched Seemona's car. Using this fabricated information, Seemona was arrested by the Nassau County police and kept in a Long Island jail, where one of the supposed victims identified her.

Seemona was unaware that none of the robberies had actually happened. They were all part of a complex setup planned by Jerry, who had intimidated, forced, and paid off the witnesses to give false statements.

He created a convincing story based on crime shows, using his knowledge from watching series to make a plot that could trick the police. Because of this, Seemona was in jail for seven months, suffering from being wrongfully locked up and losing almost everything she had worked for. Her fast-food business failed, she lost her family home, and her daughter was taken from her.

The truth was revealed when a witness forced to testify came forward and confessed that they had been intimidated by Jerry to make up false claims. As the investigation went on, it was evident that all the charges against Seemona were false. The police reports were fake, the witnesses had been controlled, and the case was based on lies and false information.

Ultimately, Seemona was cleared of all charges, and the accusations against her were dismissed. Jerry Ramrattan was arrested, and in 2012, he was found guilty of ten serious crimes, including rape, lying under oath, and conspiracy.

He was sentenced to prison for 32 years. Even after being found guilty, Jerry pleaded to be innocent and even threatened Seemona during his sentencing. Jerry would be eligible for parole in 2031.
