Selma Hill’s body was found upside down in a garbage can
As revealed in episode 3 of Worst Ex Ever, a 91-year-old woman named Selma Hill, aka Sally, was found dead on January 7, 2009. Her body was found by the detectives in a dustbin that was placed inside an exterior shed outside the house. Her unalived body was wrapped in white bed sheets.
When the detectives cut the lock and entered the exterior shed, they first saw a human foot and then discovered that it was Sally who was dumped in the garbage can.
On January 7, 2009, after Selma Hill's boyfriend, Lester, called her and found her not answering the phone, which was very unusual for Sally, he panicked and called Jeff and Ute Rowe - his son and daughter-in-law. They went to check on her; however, no one opened the door. Soon, Eric Hill (his grandson) arrived outside the house with his two-year-old daughter.
Eeic entered the house through the garage door with his daughter, and when he went up, he couldn’t find his grandmom anywhere upstairs. Eric then heard a noise behind him and saw Mei (his ex’s daughter), who told Eric that his grandmom Selma Hill was downstairs in the garage.
Next up, Eric left his daughter with Mei, and as he was going to go down to look for Sally, Rosa (his ex-wife) arrived at the scene and tased him and Mei hit him with a baton. The whole time they tortured Eric, his two-year-old daughter was locked in a dark bathroom, where she cried for help, as shown in episode three of Worst Ex Ever on Netflix.
After Eric was tased and on the ground, he was hit brutally by the duo with a baton. When the law officers arrived at the scene, they could not understand who the suspect was and who was the victim as there was blood on both Eric and Mei. So they handcuffed Eric, Rosa, and Mei eventually.
What did the autopsy reveal?
Two days after Selma Hill's death, the autopsy reports revealed that the 91-year-old died because of strangulation. There were several lacerations and abrasions found on her body too. The autopsy also revealed defensive wounds, which meant that old Sally put up a fight even in her final moments to save herself from the attackers.
Who killed Selma Hill?
As revealed in episode three of Worst Ex Ever, Selma Hill was killed by Rosa Hill and Mei Li - the viscous mother-daughter duo. The detectives at the crime scene found a Taser that had Rosa’s fingerprints on it and the DNA on the Taser proved that it was used on Sally Hill.
Originally, Rosa Hill and Mei Li wanted to take down Gregory Hill, Eric Hill, and Sally Hill one after the other. It was evident to the detectives that this was a planned murder. Post-murder, a lot of evidence was recovered. Apart from the taser, a black bag was recovered from the scene that had green and brown braided rope, a hunting knife, crossbows, a throwing star, an 18-inch pry bar, and a glass cutter.
Inside Rosa’s car, which was parked half a block away from the scene, a samurai sword and leg irons were recovered too. Later, at her Brentwood home, a 32-caliber firearm and many more important pieces of evidence were found. There were also notes written by the mother-daughter duo, which stated that they wanted to slay the Hill’s and they planned the whole homicide from a month prior.
The Google searches in the computers found at the Brentwood home showed that the duo googled how to murder, different ways of murdering, and similar searches. They called this plan Operation Custody to get the custody of Rosa’s daughter back, which Rosa lost in 2011 after her accusations against Eric (her husband) were proven wrong at the Alameda Court.
Originally, their plan was to blame Eric for his grandmother’s death. The mother-daughter duo wanted a confession from Eric saying that he was the one who slayed his grandmom and dumped her body in the dumpster. By doing this, Rosa Hill would get the custody of her daughter back.
The mother-daughter duo thought that if they could force Eric to confess this by holding him at gunpoint, Eric would shoot himself in the moment of despair and she would have their daughter back once again. However, the plan didn’t work well for them as although it was a pre-planned murder, the execution went horribly wrong and there were no attempts to hide evidence.
However, things did not go as planned by the mother-daughter dop. On July 28, 2011, Rosa Hill and Mei Ali were found guilty of the first-degree murder of Selma Hill and also for the premeditated and attempted murder of Eric Hill and were sentenced to life.
