The shooting deaths of Sharon Causse and Michael Miller shocked the community in Las Vegas as the investigations revealed a more sinister plot underneath the murders. Sharon and her husband, Thomas Randolph, had been back from a movie night when she was shot inside her Las Vegas home by an alleged intruder, Michael Miller.

Thomas Randolph subsequently dialed 911 to report the incident but the authorities found reasons to suspect foul play. The makers of Dateline created The Black Widower: The Six Wives of Thomas Randolph, which chronicles the double murders of Causse and Miller as it airs on July 15, 2024, at 9 pm EST on Investigation Discovery.

The official synopsis reads:

"Over eight years, the infamous Black Widower Thomas Randolph stands trial for the murder of his wife and her handyman; the victims' families are ready to see justice served, but a surprise ruling from the Nevada Supreme Court threatens everything."

Sharon Causse and Michael Miller were allegedly killed by Thomas Randolph

On May 8, 2008, Thomas Randolph and Sharon Causse stepped out for a movie night and a dinner date at a suburban restaurant to celebrate Mother's Day. According to KLAS 8 News Now, Thomas had allegedly let Sharon out of his car while he parked it in their garage.

The 47-year-old Sharon walked into their 6517 Rancho Sante Fe Drive home, only to be shot in the head. Thomas entered the premises to find Sharon bleeding out on the floor in the narrow hallway. He also mentioned having spotted a shadow when he grabbed his 9mm handgun for protection.

Thomas Randolph alleged that he bumped into the intruder before he shot him. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that he shared with the police in recorded videos:

“I don’t remember if I seen the handle in his sweatshirt, or if I seen the handle in his pants, but he was doing something, going for something. He kind of rushed up on me a little bit, and that’s when I just pushed him, boom boom boom.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal also reported that Thomas had mentioned in the 911 call that he had heard a gunshot before entering the home that alerted him. However, Metro Detective Cliff Mogg mentioned that Thomas had not heard gunshots as he was hard of hearing and the music inside his SUV was turned up.

The murder of Sharon Causse led to the identification of the alleged intruder, Michael James Miller, and the authorities found that he had been acquainted with Thomas Randolph. Thomas had met Miller at a convenience store and the two had also worked together on the former's Northwest Valley home where Miller helped as a handyman.

Thomas spoke to the 911 operator reporting that Sharon Causse had been unresponsive and shot. According to the recorded 911 call to the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Thomas reportedly screamed and grunted over Sharon's body, saying:

“Oh my god. She don’t have a pulse.”

Authorities believed that Thomas had been trying to stall the response to the crime scene. Moreover, prosecutors argued that he had recruited Michael Miller to order a hit on Sharon Causse Randolph to get hold of over $360,000 in insurance payout.
