House of the Dragon season 2 came to an end when the finale premiered on August 4, 2024. The episode set up some huge developments like Rhaenyra making a play for the throne, while a huge battle looms.
However, at the same time, it also set up a major moment that eerily foreshadowed the deaths of two major characters.
Warning: Spoilers for House of the Dragon season 2 to follow
In the House of the Dragon season 2 finale, Aemond is seen talking to Helaena. Asking her to join him in battle, she confronts him about attacking Aegon and told him that his death is to come soon above God's Eye - a lake in the Riverlands.
In Fire & Blood, the book House of the Dragon is based on, the battle above God's Eye sees Aemond and Daemon battle it out alongside their dragons. The fight also happens to claim both their lives in the books.
What is God's Eye in House of the Dragon, and what happens there?
In House of the Dragon lore, God's Eye is the largest lake in all of the Seven Kingdoms.
It's right near Harrehal, to the South, and is the location where the battle between Daemon and Aemond takes place in Fire & Blood. Given that Helaena has prophecized Aemond's death, it looks like it's going to come soon enough when the uncle and nephew go head-to-head.
In Fire & Blood, the battle takes place after Rhaenyra takes over King's Landing, and Aemond decides to reign fire over the Riverlands with Vhagar. With Daemon having had enough, he decides to seek out his nephew and sets out for Harrenhal. There, Daemon is met with Aemond, and the two alongside their dragons - Caraxes and Vhagar - begin their battle in the sky.
However, Vhagar injures Caraxes gravely, and Daemon decides to jump onto Aemond's dragon. After mounting Vhagar, Daemon runs his sword through Aemond's empty eye socket, killing him, but it also comes at the cost of his own life.
The two die alongside their dragons as their bodies fall into the lake, never to be recovered.
How does House of the Dragon season 2 foreshadow Daemon's death?
In the finale for House of the Dragon season 2, Daemon sees a vision when he approaches a weirwood tree.
He sees what the future is going to be and is met with images of Rhaenyra on the throne, the White Walker, a dead dragon in a battlefield covered with bodies, and Daenerys Targaryen as well. But he sees himself plunged into the water as well.
Knowing what happens to him above God's Eye in Fire & Blood, it's pretty clear that the show is foreshadowing his death. However, when the battle with Aemond happens remains to be seen.
It's clear that the next season will see Rhaenyra take over the throne in King's Landing and Aemond causing destruction in the Riverlands. But it will still be a while before we see Aemond and Daemon trade blows.
