What If...? season 3 - Release date, trailer, cast, and everything we know so far

What If...? season 3, one of Marvel's most anticipated shows, is all set to return with a third and final season on December 22, 2024. Ahead of its release, the series has finally dropped a first trailer, which gives MCU fans a treat with many exciting hero appearances and many fascinating scenarios that should be a joy to watch.

As already revealed in this new trailer, this season will bring forth some of the X-Men to the fore, including a Mjonir-wielding Storm (Alison Sealy-Smithas). Other notable appearances included a cowboy Shang-Chi and a mecha Captain America. All in all, this season has plenty of things to look forward to.

The third and final season of What If...? is set to premiere on December 22, 2024, with subsequent episodes set to arrive in the following days. This means that the series will conclude on December 29, 2024. This season, too, consists of eight episodes.

What If...? season 3: Release date and trailer

The trailer for What If...? season 3 was just released a while back, taking viewers back to the world of dynamic Marvel storylines and the big question that the title continues to ask.

The extremely well-edited trailer for the show depicts scenes from all eight episodes and ties them together in a way that the previous seasons have. Among some very intriguing elements and characters spread over the trailer, the ending gives a glimpse at Storm as the Goddess of Thunder, which will most likely steal the thunder in the upcoming season.

Moreover, this season of the Marvel show is also expected to tie the previous seasons together in one cohesive timeline. In essence, it will complete a full circle for the three-season show, which has perhaps been the most successful and critically acclaimed release from Marvel since the golden days of Avengers: Endgame.

In what is perhaps one of the most exciting formats of releases, the show will premiere one episode every day from December 22 onwards. The complete release schedule of What If...? season 3 is as follows.

Cast details of What If...? season 3

Disney has already confirmed some characters who are slated to return for the third season. The trailer gave a glimpse at a few more of them. The series will once again be led by Jeffrey Wright as the Watcher.

Apart from him, the cast will vary in each episode as the storytelling in the show is anything but linear. Some of the confirmed cast members set to appear in the final season include Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter/Captain Carter, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Laurence Fishburne as Bill Foster/Goliath, America Ferrera as Ranger Morales, Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector/Moon Knight, Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, and Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, among others.

Casting for some of the roles is yet to be confirmed.


Plot details for What If...? season 3

Apart from bringing the story to a full circle, the third season is also set to feature some exciting standalone episodes, which will, once again, add up to become something much bigger.

The episodes include one Red Guardian–centered episode, one featuring Agatha, an anime-inspired episode, and a Western-themed episode featuring Shang-Chi.
