Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramirez was born on February 29, 1960, in El Paso, a city in Texas, he was the youngest of five children to Mexican immigrants. At 12, his cousin, a Vietnam War veteran, showed him photographs of Vietnamese women he had allegedly raped and killed. This exposure impacted Ramirez's psyche.
