Cobra Kai Season 6 finally made its Netflix debut on July 18, 2024, bringing forth the first five episodes in the saga. This also marks a first for the show, as Netflix divided this season into three parts, the latter 10 of which are slated to be released later. This part of the final season primarily dealt with the preparation for the upcoming Sekai Taikai, the most coveted Karate event in the Karate Kid universe.

One of the standout episodes in this part was the second one, which dealt with John Kreese's (played by Martin Kove) past. This has been a recurrent theme in the previous seasons of Cobra Kai, but this time it takes viewers to his time with Master Kim Sun-Yung (C.S. Lee).

The episode goes on to reveal that Master Kim Sun-Yung is still alive, and will only let Cobra Kai participate in the tournament if John Kreese manages to prove himself. This takes the man on a journey to a cave where he has to retrieve a knife. However, he is faced with the challenge of taking on a white cobra in the process.

He ultimately gets bit by the snake. This leads to a hallucination sequence, where he witnesses many things, from Terrence Silver to his younger self, but most importantly, he realizes he does have a weakness- his best student, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).

Cobra Kai: What does John Kreese realize in his hallucination?

While trying to get the knife, Kreese faces a white cobra, which serves as a metaphor for their group, Cobra Kai. However, he is unable to retrieve the knife before getting bitten by the snake. This triggers a set of hallucinations, where he witnesses many things, including his own self and a young Terrence Silver, who has been his companion since the days of Vietnam.

But the biggest realization he has is about his weakness. He realizes that his biggest weakness and the only one is his former student Johnny Lawrence. Despite the terrible things he made Johnny do and the terrible things he did to Johnny, he genuinely cares for his star pupil, which may be the only thing holding him back.

In the hallucination, Lawrence appears and starts fighting Kreese. But realizing that he has to overcome his love and attachment towards Johnny, Kreese beats his star pupil and then kills him. This ensures Kreese's freedom from his only weakness, something that would only help him in his cause.

John Kreese may be far more sinister in the next parts of Cobra Kai

John Kreese was already among the darkest characters in the entire Karate Kid universe, rarely holding anything back when things were about victory. As revealed in the second episode of the new season, the only possible attachment holding Kreese back was his ex-pupil, Lawrence.

Though this had not really slowed him down in the previous seasons of the show, we might see a whole new version of the character in the upcoming parts of the show. Kreese also has a more ruthless batch of students for his new Cobra Kai, who will not hold back in the contest.

The series has already teased the bad things that could happen at the Sekai Taikai, where Mr. Miyagi had also participated at some point, as per the last episode.

Cobra Kai season 6 part 2 will premiere on November 15, 2024. Meanwhile, the first five episodes are now streaming on Netflix.
