Moonflower Murders: Plot
Serving as the sequel to the 2022 series Magpie Murders, Moonflower Murders will be delving into another murder mystery. The two stories run parallel and unfold in different timelines. The show will delve into the story of a retired Susan Ryeland, who now runs a hotel in Crete alongside her partner Andreas, a role played by Alexandros Logothetis.
However, a couple ends up asking Ryeland for help in order to solve a murder that takes place at a local British country inn that they own. Further, the couple also believes that clues for the murders can be found in a mystery novel by Alan Conway, which is set in the 1950s. The novel, in the narrative, is set in the 1950s and revolves around the murder of a movie star, which appears to have a range of similarities with the case at hand as well.
The series is completely based on the Anthony Horowitz novel, and takes viewers across two mysteries spanning in alternate dimensions. The narrative itself keeps going back and forth between the past and the present.
One of the mysteries that Susan Ryeland needs to solve takes place in the present time. However, the narrative keeps skipping back to the previous 1950s mystery, which also has a range of similarities with the current one. This leads viewers to a fascinating conclusion which not only ties up all the loose ends, but also marks Ryeland's detective skills.
