Martha is an upcoming documentary on Netflix that illustrates the life of the famous personality Martha Stewart. The television personality has been a household name in the United States for decades. She is best known as a business mogul and author, but the upcoming documentary provides a different perspective on her life.

Directed by R. J. Cutler, the documentary will premiere on October 30, 2024. As per Netflix, the series includes interviews with the visionary entrepreneur herself, retelling her story with her unique perspective. The idea behind the series came to Cutler once he delved into Stewart's backstory. He said to Netflix:

"I started reading about Martha and the more I did, the more it became clear to me that she was a complex person filled with so many conflicts and contradictions. And the more I learned about her, the more excited I became about the possibility of digging deeper into her story."

The upcoming documentary delves into her life with all its ups and downs, from her teenage years to the present. Apart from interviews with Stewart, the documentary also includes letters, pictures, and journal entries from her own personal archives.


When will Martha premiere on Netflix?

As per Netflix, the upcoming documentary is scheduled to be released on the streaming platform on October 30, 2024. It will be available exclusively on Netflix and will not be available for rent or purchase on any other streaming services.

The Netflix press release follows the initial premiere of the documentary film at the Paris Theatre in New York City, on October 21, 2024. The premiere was attended by Martha Stewart, R. J. Cutler, and several other famous personalities, who came out to support her and the director.


What we know about Martha from the trailer

As per the trailer of the series, it follows Stewart's life, from her modest beginning in a working-class family to working her way up to widespread acclaim. The director takes a deep dive into her life, as she takes viewers through her journey as a Wall Street stockbroker, before eventually paving the way for her success as an entrepreneur.

In the trailer, Stewart's voiceover can be heard trying to explain how she had to learn to make it in a man's world, and how she used their insults and mockery as her inspiration. Martha Stewart says the following about her secret to success:

"I’m strict and I’m demanding and I’m all those good things that make a successful person."

The trailer also provides a glimpse into the personality getting confessional about her life. She addresses issues such as infidelity in her marriage, while she advises younger women about their unfaithful marriages.

Apart from her success as a businesswoman, Stewart also delves into some sordid details about her brief stint in prison. The documentary explores how her reputation was hit hard when she was charged with felony and obstruction of justice associated with insider trading. Stewart can be heard speaking about how she had to be in solitary prison without even basic necessities.

Additionally, the trailer provides a glimpse into the stylistic aspect of the documentary series, as the camera is primarily focused on Stewart in the style of an interview. However, voiceovers from friends and colleagues are featured as well, as they provide their insights into the life of the industry stalwart.
