Giancarlo Esposito is an American actor and director best known for his role as Gustavo Fring or Gus in the AMC crime drama series Breaking Bad (20009-2011) and its prequel series Better Call Saul (2017-2022) created by Vince Gilligan.

Gus first appears in Season 2, episode 11, Mandala in Breaking Bad. Throughout the five seasons of Breaking Bad and its prequel Better Call Saul, Esposito's Gustavo Fring solidified his position as one of the greatest villains on television. He appeared in Better Call Saul in Season 3, episode 2.

Esposito said that he went through two bankruptcies before landing his role as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad. He almost lost his home in the lowest phase of life. He considered putting an end to his life in pursuit of a life insurance payout for his family.

The actor in 2008, before his role in Breaking Bad, had thought:

“If I got somebody to knock me off, death through misadventure, they would get the insurance; I had four kids. I wanted them to have a life. It was a hard moment in time. I thought of self-annihilation so that they could survive. That’s how low I was.”

"Breaking Bad" irrevocably altered his career and landed him roles in films like "The Mandalorian," "The Boys," and others.
