After its debut season and the delays that followed, Severance season 2 is one of the most hotly anticipated TV shows of the year, with the second season expected to drop in 2024. While the exact release date remains unclear, Apple TV+ has recently dropped a cryptic teaser, which seems to spell out something very interesting for fans.
While the teaser seems to initially not convey anything particular, fans soon pointed out that the cryptic message in the teaser is actually Morse code, and it reads out "Tomorrow," hinting that this may be the date for trailer release.
Fans of Severance can stay tuned tomorrow and expect Apple TV+ to give a glimpse into the second season of the show for the first time. This time around, the series will also have a huge cliffhanger to deal with.
Why Severance season 2 used a cryptic trailer: The ties to the series
Severance season 1 immersed fans in the offbeat concept of separating work and personal life through surgery, which also raises several existential questions. One of the recurring themes throughout the first season was how Mark (Adam Scott) and Helly (Britt Lower) tried to get messages out to their outer selves but repeatedly failed.
Apple TV+ played on this difficulty of transmitting messages and used it as a thematic element in the teaser for the second season. Here, too, many will not understand what is conveyed.
This clever move, however, will be a source of a lot of anticipation for fans around the world. Tomorrow, we will find out whether fans have deciphered the message correctly.
What is Severance Season 2 all about?
Severance Season 2 will dive into the aftermath of the first season, which left the characters on the brink of a harrowing revelation. The second season is set to follow Mark's quest for answers and perhaps more expansion of the world.
The creator, Dan Erickson, has already confirmed the expansion of the world in an interview with Esquire while discussing Severance season 2. He had said:
"There's definitely going to be some expansion of the world,...Within Lumon, we're going to see more of the building, and we'll see more of the outside world, too."
He also revealed a little about the overall plan and how he plans to continue the series, some of which will be visible in the second season as well. Erickson added:
"There's an overall plan for the show. I have an end point in mind, and I intentionally didn't plan it season by season, because I wanted it to be flexible enough that we could get there in two seasons or six seasons. I want to allow us to be surprised by where the show goes."
The second season is slated to feature all the primary actors from the first season, including Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Christopher Walken, Britt Lower, Tramell Tillman, Zach Cherry, and Dichen Lachman. It has also added some big names like Bob Balaban, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, Gwendoline Christie, John Noble, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Alia Shawkat, and Merritt Wever.
We may have a better grip on the narrative of Severance season 2 if Apple TV+ does drop a trailer tomorrow. Stay tuned for updates.
