Law and Order season 24 premiered on October 3, 2024, and released eight episodes before going on a fall break in November. The show is back with the remaining episodes this January. Law and Order season 24 episode 9 will air on Thursday, January 16, 2025, on NBC at 8 pm ET.
The new season continues the franchise’s legacy of tackling complex cases, following criminal investigations by the NYPD and the prosecution of offenders by the Manhattan District Attorney’s office. The show explores different aspects of justice through cases inspired by real-world events but does take creative liberties with the storyline.
Created by Dick Wolf and produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television, the show originally premiered in 1990 and went on a hiatus after the 20th season in 2010. The 21st season premiered in 2022, and the show has become the second longest-running live-action scripted American primetime series.

Talking to NBC Insider on January 9, showrunner Rick Eid spoke about his vision for the ongoing season:
"Something we're sort of emphasizing this year is trying to learn more about some of our characters, it's still Dick Wolf's Law & Order, and there's still compelling, topical cases every week and ethical and moral dilemmas every week, but I think that we're trying, on certain episodes, to dig just a little bit deeper into who our people are and see how their personal lives intersect with their professional lives."
