A brief recap of Severance season 2 episode 1
In the opening scene of Severance season 2 episode 1, Mark S. returns to Lumon and meets his new MDR team members, Gwendolyn Y., Mark W., and Dario R. The only familiar face he finds is that of Seth Milchick, his former supervisor who was promoted to manager of the severed floor following Harmony Cobel's departure in season 1.
Mark also meets a young child, Miss Huang, who is hired as the new deputy manager of the severed floor.
Milchick informs him that five months have passed since the events of the overtime contingency, wherein Mark, Helly, and Irving bypassed the severance protocol to wake up in the outside world.
After Helly, Irving, and Dylan are brought back to Lumon, all four of them learn that their rebellious antics have turned them into the "face of severance reform." Milchick shows them the 'Lumon is Listening' video to convince the group of their importance in the company. He also offers the innies the freedom to leave Lumon if they wish to, but they all decide to stay back and uncover the company's dark secrets.
In a private moment, the group shares what they discovered during the overtime contingency. Mark informs his friends that his outie is a widower whose wife Gemma died in a car crash years ago. He then shocks everyone by revealing that Gemma is, in fact, Lumon's wellness counselor, Ms. Casey.
Helly, on the other hand, lies about her outie's real identity by saying she learned nothing significant. In truth, Helly discovered that her outie, Helena Eagan, is the daughter of Lumon's CEO, Jame Eagan. She underwent the severance program as a publicity stunt to counter people's skepticism about the controversial program. However, Helly decides to keep her friends in the dark for now.
Later, Mark confides in Helly that he wants to find and save Ms. Casey at any cost. At the end of the episode, he is working on an MDR file named 'Cold Harbor' that is somehow connected to the wellness counselor.
What to expect from Severance season 2 episode 2?
As per the official logline, Severance season 2 episode 2 will focus on the outies, specifically Mark and his family. As the first episode solely dealt with the innies' return to Lumon, the upcoming episode will likely depict the aftermath of the overtime contingency on the outside world.
The episode's title also points to the fact that the outies will be the central focus as Mrs. Selvig only exists in the outside world. Mrs. Selvig/Harmony Cobel will likely appear in this episode after being absent from the first one. It may also reveal what she's been up to since getting fired from Lumon around five months ago.
The upcoming episode looks poised to answer many pressing questions from the end of season 1. How did the overtime contingency affect the outies? More importantly, how did Helly's disturbing revelations about innies affect the people of Kier?
Fans may see more of the new MDR recruits and learn about their fates after the original team's return. Gwendoline Christie, who plays a member of Lumon's Optics and Design department, will potentially appear in the second episode, offering insights into the division's work in the larger context of the company.
