The new season of the romantic drama series Virgin River season 6, is coming back to Netflix this holiday season. The latest season premiered on December 19, 2024, at 12 AM PST. It continues to explore the complexities of love, loss, and new beginnings in the main characters' lives.
After 5 seasons of developing romance, Virgin River season 6 will lead to the wedding of the fans' favorite couple, Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack (Martin Henderson). The last season ended with a Christmas-themed episode, and the new season will resume the storyline “deeper into springtime”.
The show is produced by Reel World Management and is based on the Virgin River book series by Robyn Carr. The series was renewed for the seventh season in October 2024.

The official logline for Virgin River season 6 reads:
"Against the backdrop of Mel and Jack’s romantic spring wedding season, this sixth installment promises fresh twists and turns, escalating love triangles, delightful wedding drama, as well as uncovered secrets from Mel’s father’s past which will transport us to the magic and mystique of Virgin River in the 1970s."
In the season 5 finale, Mel and Jack decided to buy Lilly's farm, and the new season will see them turning it into their dream home while also navigating the path to parenthood.
Fans will also get to see the love story of Mel's parents, Sarah and Everett when they met and fell in love in the 1970s. Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr have joined the cast as the younger versions of the characters.
Speaking about their inspiration for the sixth installment of the series, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Tudum by Netflix on November 29, 2024:
"I knew this season needed to be the wedding season. It was time. It felt like a great event to build around, so everybody had as much forethought and time to plan as possible … It felt very Virgin River in its production — the ambition of it, and that we’re a small group of people that care about something so much: the fans. So we just busted our humps to get it done.”
The events of the first five seasons unfolded over the span of approximately a year. In season 6, the show has teased new arcs for many recurring characters like Preacher, Brady, and Kaia. The fictional town of Virgin River is set in Northern California, while the show is filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
