The tenth and final episode of What We Do in the Shadows season 6 was released on FX on December 16, 2024. The last episode of the popular comedy horror mockumentary series takes a self-conscious look at the show’s legacy and each of the characters’ journeys.

Titled The Finale, episode 11 bids adieu to the Staten Island vampires as the documentary crew starts packing things up, saying they have collected enough footage to make the documentary. While the vampires themselves are mostly indifferent to this, Guillermo does not receive this news very well.

He tries to come up with the best possible ending to the documentary. Toward the end of the episode, he tells Nandor that the latter would not see him the next day as he would have left by then. However, in the first post-credits scene, Guillermo clarifies that he is not leaving the Staten Island mansion after all.

As the last episode of What We Do in the Shadows season 6 opens, Colin Robinson and Laszlo tell the camera crew how Laszlo’s monster has displayed increased libido over the past few weeks. As Robinson keeps mentioning the ‘horniness’ of the creature, the viewers are given several glances of the same chasing after Nadja, who keeps laughing off his advances.

Elsewhere, Nadja tries to make Nandor understand that The Guide is not really into him. At this moment, the camera crew decides they have had enough footage of the vampires’ lives and that it is finally time to weave it all together into the documentary.

Guillermo is quite sad to hear this. Throughout the finale, he keeps trying to come up with the best ending for the documentary, but his vampire friends’ silliness foils his repeated attempts.

Finally, he tells Nandor that he will leave them by the next day. Nandor is visibly sad to hear this, and the subsequent conversation between the two forms one of the most poignant moments in What We Do in the Shadows season 6, especially when Nandor asks Guillermo to stop calling him ‘master,’ and asks to be called simply ‘Nandor.’

However, as the emotional moment comes to an end, Guillermo appears again after the first batch of credits rolls to inform the crew and Nandor that he is not really leaving the vampires. He had concocted the somber goodbye bit to ensure the documentary gets a proper and dramatic closure.

Even as Guillermo is grappling with the sadness of having to see the documentary crew leave, Nandor is still quite serious about the grand plan he hatched in the previous episode of What We Do in the Shadows season 6. He designs elaborate costumes for Guillermo and himself, styling the former as his sidekick as he slips into a derivative suit that takes after the suits of countless other generic superheroes.

The extent of Nandor’s dedication becomes evident midway into the episode as he shows Guillermo the designs of his lair. It would be something located deep underground, and the duo would get there via Nandor’s resting coffin, which would also act as a high-tech, improvised lift.

Toward the end of What We Do in the Shadows season 6 episode 11 when it becomes clear that Guillermo is, in fact, not leaving him, Nandor asks him to sit beside him in the coffin. When Guillermo does that, the coffin shoots downward into the abyss to what one hopes is the proposed lair.

Nadja becomes an armchair psychologist

Nadja is the first person to notice that Guillermo is dejected because the camera crew is leaving. Quite accurately, she describes how the crew was part of Guillermo’s life for the past six years and how its sudden departure would rob his life of the color it had.

She asks Nandor to go console a sobbing Guillermo. She also plays a vital role in making sure that Nandor realizes that The Guide is really not in love with him. Nandor, however, responds with denial.

Laszlo has a new mission

As his creature has started demonstrating progressively promiscuous behavior, Laszlo decides to make a female partner for him. He and Colin say they are ninety percent done with the job. Additionally, they have decided to ask The Guide to donate her head and breasts for the new creature.

Moreover, Laszlo, ever the articulate one, keeps uttering stunningly literary lines when explaining Guillermo’s cause of sadness. The Guide is impressed with his erudition. However, Laszlo conveniently hides that the lines are not his but Shakespeare’s.

The What We Do in the Shadows season 6 finale is playfully self-reflexive, constantly drawing attention to its filming and production methods. All episodes are available to stream on Hulu.
