When Emilia Clarke recalled about her awkward meeting with Prince William and her Game of Thrones journey

Ahead of the release of her 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story, the Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke appeared on an episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers in May 2018. During the episode, besides being asked questions related to her upcoming movie and past projects, Clarke was also asked about her extremely awkward encounter with Prince William whom she met recently.

While recounting her experiences, Clarke mentioned that she met Prince William either the previous year or earlier that year at Kensington Palace. She explained that when she arrived at the location to meet him she was made aware that there were certain protocols to follow while meeting the Prince.

However, when the moment arrived, the Game of Thrones alumni grew increasingly nervous, which caused her to fumble her words. This ultimately led to a very embarrassing first meeting with Prince William.

As previously stated, Emilia Clarke appeared on an episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers as part of promotions for her upcoming movie Solo: A Star Wars Story. On the show, besides her body of work, Clarke also spoke about her personal experiences. One such experience included her first meeting with Prince William at the Kensington Palace.

Talking about the meeting, Clarke mentioned that she had gone to meet the Prince with an open mind. However, when the time came she was requested to follow a certain set of rules before she could meet him.

She mentioned being told not to face her back towards the Prince. She also recalled being told to address the Prince as "Your Royal Highness" followed by "Prince William" (optional) while meeting him. However, she revealed that when the time came, she was so scared that she fumbled and couldn't let out "Your Royal Highness" in its entirety while addressing him.

Emilia Clarke's appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers coincided with the release of her upcoming and recent film, Solo: A Star Wars Story as well as the anticipation for the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones, which was set to be released the following year. Therefore, quite naturally she was asked to speak about both projects.

While speaking about Solo: A Star Wars Story Clarke mentioned how significant it was for her, especially since it helped her earn "massive sister points" from her elder brother who was a huge Star Wars fan. Joking about the situation Clarke mentioned how her entire life had been about striving towards gaining her brother's appreciation.

Emilia also spoke about Game of Thrones when she was specifically asked about her approach towards intimate scenes with scene partner and friend Kit Harrington. Talking on the same, Clarke mentioned that Kit and her, while approaching such scenes, practiced something that made things less awkward between them. She said:

"Before we do have a romantic moment, we do this kind of, you're kind of going in for a snog, and you go (makes vomiting noises). And just, "Oh God. I am gonna throw up." And so then, with this kind of new knowledge, it sort of was like, "Oh, our funny joke," that's actually really accurate."

She continued:

"Like it's actually now really like, "Oh, snogging a family member. That's alarming."
