Starring Harrison Ford and Jason Segel, Shrinking opened to exemplary reviews with its first season, which premiered in January 2023. After a successful first season, the comedy-drama was renewed for season 2 in March 2023. This season will premiere with its first two episodes on October 16, 2024. Following the two-episode premiere, one episode will be released every Wednesday.
The comedy series revolves around a therapist named Jimmy Laird, played by Jason Segel. Laird, through the course of the series, is seen coming to terms with the loss of his wife and decides to tell his patients exactly what he thinks, in each session. This leads to profound and hilarious changes in the lives of his patients and himself alike. Shrinking has the following official synopsis on IMDB:
“A grieving therapist starts to tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge changes to people's lives - including his own.”
With Jason Segel having created the series alongside Brett Goldstein and Jim Lawrence, the kind of talent behind the show promises an exciting ride with season 2.
Everything we know about Shrinking season 2 from the trailer
Season 1 of Shrinking left things off at a hilarious crossroads. One of Jimmy’s patients, Grace, played by Heidi Gardner, pushes her boyfriend off a cliff. Season 2 is expected to deal with the aftermath of the incident, with Jimmy probably coming under serious scrutiny due to his unconventional therapy methods.
Regardless, Harrison Ford will be returning as Dr. Paul Rhoades, another one of Jimmy’s patients who suffers from Parkinson’s disease. Ford’s character was seen coming to terms with his newly diagnosed illness in the first season, and the same can be expected to continue in the coming iteration as well.
Viewers can also expect season 2 to delve into Jimmy’s relationship with his daughter Alice, portrayed by Lukita Maxwell. Further, per Screen Rant, according to co-creator Bill Lawrence, season 2 will not delve into courtroom drama, which hints at a similar-styled narrative that revolves around Jimmy’s sessions.
This time around, Jimmy seemingly succeeds as a father, as Alice is seen telling him that she feels as if ‘she got her dad back.’ Shrinking season 2 can therefore be expected to continue in much the same vein as the first iteration and will present a stellar mix of comedy and drama.
