The Decameron is a black-comedy series scheduled to premiere on Netflix on July 25, 2024. Described as a "wine-soaked s*x romp" by Netflix, the upcoming series is an adaptation of the eponymous 14th-century medieval literature piece by Giovanni Boccaccio.
Netflix has taken the collection of short stories by Boccaccio and given it a humorous twist (the original work was also written as a humorous recollection of events) while highlighting issues of class disparity.
On July 10, 2024, Netflix released a trailer for The Decameron, offering a glimpse of what to expect from the black-comedy series. Earlier, Netflix released a racy teaser last month, which provided a glimpse into the characters and the setting of the series, hinting at a hilarious experience for viewers. Viewers can expect a lot of debauchery, partying, and madness, only amplified by the eccentric set of characters as seen in the trailer.

The Decameron - What we know about the plot from the trailer
The upcoming Netflix series showcases a humorous adaptation of the seminal 14th-century collection of short stories by Giovanni Boccaccio. The original text chronicled how a group of wealthy noble people escaped the terrifying bubonic plague in the 14th Century, hiding in a luxurious castle with their servants.
The trailer portrays a set of eccentric nobles as they arrive at a lavish villa in Firenze (now called Florence) to escape the bubonic plague in 1348. They engage in lavish parties, debauch s*xual encounters, and vagrant displays of riches while the rest of Italy suffers the wrath of the plague.
The official synopsis of the series reads:
"Set in 1348 during the Black Death, the deadliest pandemic in human history, explores the timely themes of class systems, power struggles and survival in a time of pandemic."
The newly released trailer suggests that all rules within the villa will eventually decay as time progresses. A character aptly pointed out that it felt like the inhabitants were living in "the ninth circle of hell'!
Taking cues from the original work, creator Kathleen Jordan used the inherent humor and eroticism to create a witty narrative while exploring class disparities. In an interview with Netflix. Jordan mentioned that the exploration of class disparity lies at the project's core. She said:
"And when at times of crisis, the chasm between the haves and the have-nots grows wider and wider. Obviously, that’s something we’ve seen in the last few years, in particular with COVID."
