What happened between Micah Holland and Joey Weatherwax?
Joey Weatherwax and Micah Holland lived in Christian County Missouri and grew up together with their extended family. Court documents stated that the two had a lot in common.
The cousins also reportedly struggled with mental and emotional issues since they were children and were on medication for the same at some point in their lives. They also reportedly suffered from drug and alcohol abuse.
ID's latest episode of Feuds Turned Fatal is set to show the issues between the cousins, which began when Joey was in prison. During this time, his cousin, Micah Holland got close with his wife and began an affair. By the time, Joey returned from prison, Christina had left her husband for his cousin.
This started a feud that would eventually lead to Joey Weatherwax's death.
Throughout the following period, multiple events occurred that could be considered warning signs of sorts. Micah Holland once got into an altercation with family members over the affair in Clarksville,Tennessee, and believed that everyone in their family had turned against him. He also alleged that Weatherwax and other family members had loosened the lug nuts on the wheels of his car in an attempt to harm him.
All this culminated in a bitter battle of words ahead of a family gathering on September 8, 2012, at their cousin Kyle Cherry's house. Ahead of the gathering, Micah Holland and Joey Weatherwax allegedly got into an argument over the telephone where they threatened each other. Holland allegedly indicated that he was on his way to confront Weatherwax, who was at Cherry's house.
After encouraging Holland to do so, Weatherwax reportedly armed himself with a two-by-four board. When Holland arrived, he claimed that Weatherwax ran toward his vehicle armed with the two-by-four. He fired a shot from his car window that hit Joey in the chest. He further ran over his dead cousin while trying to flee the scene.
Soon after, Micah Holland was charged with the murder of Weatherwax. At his trial, he declined to testify and called no witnesses. He claimed he shot his cousin in an act of self-protection.
However, the jury found him guilty of wanton murder and he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, where he remains as of today.
The upcoming episode of Feuds Turned Fatal will cover this episode in more detail.
