How did Barbara Pasa murder Tim Pasa?
Barbara Pasa killed Tim Pasa, as previously detailed in season one episode three of the true-crime docuseries Meet Marry Murder on Lifetime. Tim was murdered inside their residence on May 5, 2018. Barbara staged the murder and made it look like an accident caused by a house fire.
The neighbors of the Pasa’a made the first 911 call and were the first to report the fire. When the crime officers arrived, they found Tim’s charred body inside his room and declared him dead. Initially, the detectives thought that Tim Pasa had died from the fire, which broke inside his room and consumed him.
Barbara Pasa claimed that she had lit a candle in Tim’s room to get rid of the foul dog urine odor, which could have caused the fire. Upon discovering Tim’s body in a horrific state, Barbara even told the officers that she didn’t want an autopsy to be done.
However, an autopsy was inevitable, and when the reports came out, it was revealed that Tim had not died from the fire. There was no carbon monoxide found in his lungs. Instead, the report indicated that Tim had died from Acute Drug (Propofol) intoxication, which hinted that he was already dead before the fire had started.
Upon further investigation, the detectives found out that Barbara had easy access to the drug Propofol, being a hospice nurse. She injected Tim with it, and as he was sedated and unconscious, she left him inside the room and also started the fire.
As shown in Meet Marry Murder, Barbara killed Tim because of financial gain. She had increased his life insurance recently so that she could gain $200,000 after his death. Additionally, Tim wanted to divorce her, which was revealed by their son on the show and was speculated to be another reason for Barbara to kill him.
Barbara Pasa also claimed that she was miles away from the crime scene at the time of Tim's death. However, evidence from neighbors, CCTV footage, and her cellphone location showed she was just a few kilometers away from the scene.
Barbara tried to kill herself after Tim's death
On May 9, 2018, Barbara was rushed to the hospital after a drug overdose, which she survived. She tried to kill herself to avoid prison after Tim's biopsy reports came out, and it was clear to everyone that she had plotted his death, which was also shown in season one, episode three of Meet Marry Murder.
Before going to prison, Barbara claimed that Tim was a drug user and would take Propofol occasionally. However, the jury did not find her story convincing. Additionally, the evidence pointed at her, as she was the only one with a motive to kill Tim Pasa.
On May 18, 2018, she was finally arrested and charged with first-degree murder and arson. She was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
