The upcoming episode of People Magazine Investigates on ID is all set to cover the brutal attempt at Baron Li's life, who sustained nine gunshot wounds and still lived to tell the tale. The ex-car salesman was attacked by two young boys, Joseph Good and Quincy Mendez, who were hired by his ex-wife, Shaerin Kelley, following a bitter battle for custody over their differently-abled son.
Baron Li not only survived but managed to build a better life for himself after the extended period of rehabilitation.
This case is the subject of People Magazine Investigates season 8 episode 8, which premieres at 9 pm EST on December 9, 2024, on ID. The synopsis for the episode reads:
"In 2020, Baron Li, is shot nine times in front of his home. Detectives scramble to figure out who could want this loving husband and father dead. When they hone in on two teenage suspects, police struggle to identify their motives and connection to Li."

Baron Li had to go through multiple rounds of surgeries and a long period of rehabilitation before he could go back to his normal life. However, he did manage to beat the odds and is currently working for three different organizations while also living a happy life with his family in Bellevue in the Greater Seattle Area, Washington.
Who was Baron Li and what happened to him?
Baron Li is a resident of Washington and had graduated from the Hilo High School. He began his professional career working as an AutoAlert Sales Manager at Magic Toyota in Edmonds, Washington. Soon, he shifted to Rodland Toyota of Everett. He also later worked at AXIANTA Financial Partners.
After having lived in Nevada, Li and his second wife, Didee, moved to Washington to take custody of Li's child, who was left with significant physical and mental disabilities after a medical misdiagnosis. After suing for medical malpractice, Li and his first wife, Shaerin Kelley, allegedly received a generous amount to take care of the medical expenses.
However, after their relationship broke down, their son Arik was left with Shaerin. Things took a turn when the child was removed from Shaerin's care following allegations of neglect and was eventually given to Baron and his second wife.
On July 10, 2020, Li seemingly started an ordinary day and was getting out of his apartment in Washington when he was ambushed by a hooded assailant. The perpetrator fired relentlessly at Baron, who sustained as many as nine gunshot wounds in the limbs, chest, and hips.
He managed to survive this attempt and pointed towards his ex-wife right after. This gave the authorities the first lead and after investigation, they could link Shaerin Kelley to the attempt.
Where is Baron Li now?
It took 15 months of rehabilitation to get Li back on his feet. His ex-wife, Shaerin, was arrested and charged by then and so were the two young men who had carried out the murder-for-hire scheme.
Li went on to do better in his professional life following the attempt on his life. he opened his own company called CKMD BBL. He also works as an Advisor at Route 21 in Seattle, Washington. Moreover, he owns Four Tiers Contracting LLC, which deals with renovation work.
He currently lives happily with his son, wife, and daughter from his wife's previous marriage, in Bellevue in the Greater Seattle Area, Washington. He recently celebrated his 52nd birthday.
